The National Native Children’s Trauma Center invites applications for a Budget Analyst III position . The position is responsible for the administrative functions of the National Native Children’s Trauma Center and completes administrative duties as required and/or allowed by grant awards. Incumbent will be responsible for analytical, in-depth management of complex budgeting processes. Applying budgeting and accounting theory to various problems, by using analytical, evaluative, or interpretive processes and independent problem-solving skills. Suggest refinements to processes and reporting needs and implement changes. This position may make higher-level assessments regarding a specific unit's financial condition or long-range financial planning. Also, may manage an entire budgeting system or a large number of accounts across multiple fund groups.

Specific duties include:

  • Complete budget and budget justifications as required by the sponsor and as needed
  • Developing and maintaining data management systems for each grant/project
  • Assisting with grant evaluation activities as needed
  • Coordinating and communicating with project partners such as consultants, sub awardees and other University of Montana employees to perform job functions
  • Providing pre and post grant award management support as needed
  • Printing, posting and reconciling monthly payroll reports
  • Printing and posting monthly transaction reports
  • Reconciling project reports every 3-6 months
  • Forecasting on all grant and contract awards and assessing the need for budget modifications (internal budget modifications in collaboration with Office of Research and Sponsored Program staff; external budget modifications in collaboration with Office of Research and Sponsored Program staff and using eRA Commons/ASIST)
  • Tracking transactions (UMDW, Payroll) using Excel Spreadsheets
  • Tracking and providing documentation for Procard purchases using Banner
  • Completing deposits and abatements using Banner
  • Completing Request for Personnel Transaction Forms and Hiring Authorization Forms
  • Completing cost transfers
  • Completing Biweekly and Student Payroll using GrizTimeOnline and Monthly Payroll
  • Tracking sub-award expenditures
  • Updating FTE spreadsheet for all grant projects
  • Completing paperwork for Continuation/Carry Forward requests using eRA Commons/ASSIST
  • Invoicing for Sales and Service work
  • Completing Travel Expense Reports, developing contracts, and copier maintenance renewal using Grizmart
  • Making purchases (both general office supplies and grant supplies)
  • Other duties may be assigned

This position requires the selected candidate to develop a working knowledge of University of Montana financial systems, business policies, human resource policies, Office of Research policies, and travel and procard policies. The selected candidate also must complete the University of Montana Research Administration Program to receive a certificate, the University of Montana Human Subjects Protection Course or equivalent, and all trainings related to the use of University of Montana data systems.

  • Ability to expand job duties to fulfill grant goals and objectives as needed
  • Prior experience preparing budgets and conducting budget forecasts
  • Prior experience with grant reporting systems such as eRA Commons, ASSIST, and Grants.gov

Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, business or related field and three (3) years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Prior experience working with Tribes’ financial departments

Department: National Native Children’s Trauma Center

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.

Salary: $22.003/hrCurrent employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period: Six months
