The Department of Physiology and Anatomy at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  The Department has 25 full-time faculty and is truly integrative as all faculty are engaged in interdisciplinary studies that span molecular, cellular, systems and behavioral sciences, with strong traditions of excellence in the study of cardiovascular, renal and neurohumoral control systems. Research models range widely including tissue culture, rodent models, large animals and human physiology that address mechanistic studies in many pathophysiologic states including hypertension, cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, diabetes, lupus, heart failure, immune disorders, renal disease, obesity and sleep apnea. In addition, ongoing studies focus on normal physiology related to thermal regulation, exercise, hypovolemia, pregnancy and hypoxic stress.

Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree in a relevant field of study, a minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience, demonstrated success with external funding and scholarship, experience mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, and experience teaching physiology to graduate and/or medical students.  Preference will be given to candidates with current extramural funding.  The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent, funded research program that aligns with interest areas of the department, contribute to graduate and/or medical student teaching areas, and become involved in professional service, both locally and nationally.

In order to ensure consideration, applications should be received by July 17th, and review of applications will begin upon receipt.  Compensation will be commensurate with experience and align with the APS guidelines for faculty salaries. Application materials should include a cover letter expressing your interest and fit for the department, a current curriculum vitae, and contact information for at least 3 professional references. Questions can be directed to Dr. Michael Smith at michael.smith@unthsc.edu.

UNTHSC is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and is responsive to the needs of dual career candidates. We encourage applications from candidates that will contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community, including women and underrepresented groups. UNTHSC does not discriminate in employment practices based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, genetics, protected veteran status, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions.
