Position Description

The University of Mississippi invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance.  An international public Carnegie R-1 research university, the institution has a long history of producing leaders in public service, academics and innovative research. The Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance serves in the role of chief financial officer.  The position has chief responsibility for financial, endowment, facilities, business, and administrative activities. Reporting to the Chancellor and serving on the senior administrative team, the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance participates in strategic planning, policy formulation, budgetary decisions, problem solving, as well as offering financial advice and counsel on the implications of institutional decisions.  Areas reporting within the Administration and Finance division include: Accounting, Airport, Budget, Bursar, Contractual Services (Campus Dining, Ole Miss Bookstore, Licensing, Vending, ID Cards), Controller, Facilities Management, Facilities Planning, Golf Course, Human Resources, Landscape Services, Parking and Transportation, Procurement Services, and Sustainability.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operates as chief financial officer providing leadership in financial and business management for an organization with current annual revenues in excess of $700 million.
  • Promotes the financial wellbeing of the university.
  • Provides oversight for capital projects planning, financing, and construction. 
  • Manages a diverse portfolio of real estate and facilities with a replacement value of $2.6 billion.  The VC is responsible for overseeing, expanding, and leveraging real estate holdings while carefully considering the short-and long-term implications for the University.
  • Serves as chief liaison with the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Board on financial, facility, and real estate matters.
  • Serves as President of the University of Mississippi Educational Building Corporation.
  • Serves as University representative to the Joint Committee on Investments which oversees endowments in the possession of the University, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, and the University of Mississippi Foundation.
  • Serves as member of the IHL-UMMC Partnership and Affiliation Review Committee.
  • Provides support for staff recruitment, evaluation, and promotion.
  • Cultivates and establishes relationships with stakeholders.
  • Shares responsibility with the Provost for oversight of Information Technology.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree and 15 years of relevant experience required.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience as a senior financial officer leading and managing day-to-day operations in a large, complex organization; possess expertise in strategic financial planning, financial and investment management, debt financing, cash flow management, investment strategies, and other financial functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a senior team as a listener, contributor, collaborator, mediator, and change agent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and fostering strong relationships; and ability to interact with diverse constituencies across a complex organization.
  • A track record of successfully developing, managing, mentoring, and retaining staff, and proven skills in building strong constituent relationships.
  • Strong and persuasive advocate for shared governance and adept at communicating financial issues to a broad range of constituents.
  • Commitment and ability to positively impact the City of Oxford and State of Mississippi.
