The University of British Columbia’s Faculties of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine (Division of Respiratory Medicine, Department of Medicine), invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) academic joint faculty position at the rank of an Assistant Professor, grant-tenure track, in respiratory outcomes research.

 

The position is split between Faculties of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculties of Medicine, UBC, a partnership we see as advantageous to interdisciplinarity and collaboration. The hosting Faculties provide excellence in research, teaching, and clinical services related to the nature, cause and prevention of chronic diseases. The two Faculties have a successful history of close and productive collaboration, manifested in the Respiratory Evaluation Sciences Program (http://resp.med.ubc.ca) and Legacy for Airway Health (https://www.vchri.ca/legacyforairwayhealth). The hosting Faculties are committed to ensuring the success of our learners and faculty, and to contributing to the health of the Province of British Columbia.

 

The incumbent is expected to foster a program of research that addresses the burden of airway diseases and evaluation of preventive and therapeutic interventions towards reducing such burden. In particular, it is expected that the research program would adopt a multimorbidity lens by placing airway diseases in the broader context of human biology, health, disease prevention and public policy. The capacity for data integration that transforms multiple levels of data into meaningful and actionable outputs that can improve airways health from both preventive and treatment perspectives, is seen as a key strength. Additionally, the incumbent is expected to contribute to a strong graduate and post-doctoral training program in respiratory outcomes research. The incumbent must be well-versed in data sciences and biostatistics, and a strong understanding of health economics will be considered an asset. The portfolio of the incumbent will be centred on airways disease and so professional experience within a respiratory disease context is an asset. The incumbent will have access to a wide variety of data sources, including population-based administrative health data, electronic health records, and clinical data.

 

The incumbent for this position must hold a PhD degree or equivalent in epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, or a related discipline, and will be expected to develop a strong, externally-funded and internationally competitive research program, with a clear imperative to build bridges clinically and in research across the institutions. As a faculty member the candidate is expected to actively participate in the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching activities, as well as be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. The position is funded for 5 years, with potential for renewal.

 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
