We are welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to participate in the Trapped-ion Quantum Information Project (QIP) in the Time and Frequency Division of NIST. They will work on experiments toward implementing multi-qubit gates by driving atomic ions that are confined in two-dimensional arrays. The gates will be driven by laser fields that are currently used to generate the highest-fidelity logic gates on ions. Implementation of gates in 2D arrays has not been attempted previously and will offer new challenges but also useful advantages. As a valued team member, you will identify, characterize, and overcome these special challenges with the goal to reach the highest possible fidelities in multi-qubit logic gates on arrays of icons.

The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the University of Colorado Boulder. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.
The particular group that needs a researcher is the Ion Storage Group in the Time and Frequency Division.

What We Require
- PhD degree.
- Familiarity with basic experimental techniques in atomic and optical physics, basic knowledge of lasers and skills in operating them.
