The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at DENISON UNIVERSITY invites applications for a tenure-track position at the ASSISTANT PROFESSOR level starting Fall 2021. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and the capacity to develop a research program that recruits and engages undergraduates in publishable research. Candidates must bring strength to teaching one of our 300 level courses (Analytical, Inorganic, Physical, or Polymer Chemistry). Teaching responsibilities will include introductory chemistry, at least one intermediate 300 level course, and an advanced course in the candidate’s field of expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to teach on average 9 contact hours per semester which includes both classroom and laboratory instruction. Our department expects active faculty engagement mentoring undergraduates in publishable research. The college supports research and teaching with substantial laboratory start-up funds, generous professional development opportunities, a semester-long pre-tenure leave, and readily available summer research student support. Applicants should submit a cover letter addressing their motivations for teaching at a small, residential, liberal arts college, curriculum vitae including a publication list, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and separate statements addressing their: 1) teaching philosophy across the curriculum, including their capacity to teach introductory (100 level) and intermediate (300 level) courses 2) detailed summary of proposed research (a ~5-page summary), and 3) actionable ideas to foster an equitable experience and belonging for students traditionally underrepresented in STEM disciplines.
