Classification Title: Counselor - School Psychologist Job Description:
  1. Administer testing to children using a variety of instruments and techniques appropriate to the individual child's need.
  2. Provides trainings and support groups to families, staff, school personnel, therapists and professional organizations. Conduct counseling sessions with children and adolescents.
  3. Interprets evaluation and assessment results and recommend challenging yet achievable cognitive and academic goals for children with different abilities, disabilities, strengths, needs and develop interventions to achieve these goals.

Expected Salary:

$60,000 to $73,000 depending on education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have an active School Psychologist certificate with the Florida Department of Education and licensure through the state of Florida.

Professionals with one of the following credentials are qualified to provide psychosocial counseling:

Social worker with a master's degree or a Ph.D. in social work from a Certified Social Work Education-accredited school of social work.

Registered nurse with advanced specialized counseling education and training as a clinical nurse specialist or certified psychiatric nurse.

Professional licensed to provide clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance.

Counselor with a master's degree in counseling.

Psychologist with a master's or Ph.D. in psychology.

Master's or doctoral level graduate student intern from an accredited school of social work or a psychology or counseling program, under the supervision of a licensed practitioner qualified to supervise such interns.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge and skill in administering, analyzing, interpreting and explaining evaluation/assessment results to peers, other professionals and families.

Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and counseling modalities for individuals with special needs.

Ability to work independently and effectively with others.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously verbally and in writing.

Ability to organize and prioritize assignments.

Ability to interact effectively with staff and outside contacts.

Valid school psychologist certificate with the Florida Department of Education and licensure through the state of Florida.

Ability to communicate effectively and courteously verbally and in writing.

One year experience working with children.
