JOB PURPOSE:



The Senior Associate Dean for Religious Life and Minister of Memorial Church will serve as a key member of the Office for Religious Life's multifaith team to guide, nurture, and enhance spiritual life at the University. Reporting to the Dean for Religious Life, this position is responsible for stewarding and leading religious services and events at Memorial Church. The Senior Associate Dean for Religious Life and Minister of Memorial Church will also serve the broader University providing opportunities to facilitate religious practice, foster communities of belonging and engagement across difference, and promote spiritual wellness in line with our departmental values.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Articulate and reflect the values of the Office for Religious Life across campus.
  • Administer the word, order, and sacrament for Memorial Church University Public Worship, as well as facilitate welcoming and inclusive observances of holy days, multifaith rituals, University commemorations, and vigils in the wake of crisis.
  • Design and lead a wide range of range of engaging and diverse programs at Memorial Church in collaboration with ORL staff.
  • Provide opportunities for religious access and spiritual care to underserved and underrepresented communities on campus, working in close collaboration with colleagues in Student Affairs. This includes engaging and caring for students who have felt alienated or marginalized in religious spaces.
  • Provide thoughtful and compassionate spiritual care for students, faculty, staff, alumni and other members of the university community.
  • Console bereaved members of the community through attentive and sensitive spiritual care, including shaping meaningful services, providing a calm, non-anxious presence in times of tragedy.
  • Mentor chaplain interns and provide supervision and counsel for those working in partnership with ORL.
  • Serve on University committees at the request of the Dean to support the work of the broader campus community.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



Education & Experience:



Master of Divinity (M.Div) and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Education & Experience:

Master of Divinity (M.Div), ordination in a recognized faith community with the ability to preside over Christian communion, and seven to ten years of relevant experience including specific experience designing and leading congregational worship and weekly preaching. Candidates must have significant experience in higher education chaplaincy and interfaith team leadership. Clinical Pastoral Education is preferred.

Certifications and Licenses:


  • Ordination
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred

  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:


    • Frequently sitting.
    • Occasionally perform desk-based computer tasks, stand/walk, writing by hand, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
    • Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat.
