Position Description: Directs the Center for
International Services and Programs (CISP) under the Office of the
Provost, an office that oversees the following areas of
1) International students, scholars and family services: (F, J, H-1B, LPR); student and scholar engagement; assistance with Shorelight partnership; manages communication with outside counsel for employment visas.
2) International programs: Education Away (National Student Exchange, study and internship abroad); institutional partnerships; Fulbright advising.
Ensures progressive, efficient and effective operations. Ensures compliance with the Departments of Homeland Security, State, and Labor. Utilizes the SEVIS and Terra Dotta ISSS systems as it pertains to F-1, J-1, H-1B and LPR statuses. Serves as Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)/Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 students and Responsible Officer (RO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J Exchange Visitor program.
Develops, implements, directs and oversees the university’s international education, exchange and study programs and associated initiatives that foster and strengthen educational and cultural exchange, including developing exchange agreements and activities. Assists the Admissions Office in developing partnerships with international universities and serves as liaison to international partner universities throughout campus. Develops strong on-campus programs for the purpose of engaging international students’ interest, providing support and encouraging a culture of internationalism. Provides leadership in initiating, developing, and increasing international program activities. Supervises assigned personnel. Serves as one of CSU’s Fulbright advisors. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s or J.D. degree. Five to seven year’s experience in international-related services and three years of management experience. Meets U.S. government requirements to serve as DSO and RO for issuance of student and exchange visitor visas. Understanding of applicable legislation, standards and policies related to international student services. Knowledge of health, safety and liability issues involved with planning and administering international programs. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to contribute to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive excellence of the University community.
Preferred Qualifications: Ten year’s experience in international-related services. Proven record of management of international student services and programs. A terminal degree and vast knowledge of international education. Expertise in the SEVIS system. Experience working and/or studying overseas. Fluency in a language other than English. Previous experience working with academic programs to develop strategic international partnerships. Knowledge of health, safety and liability issues involved with planning and administering international programs. Excellent program development and fiscal management skills. Experience facilitating employer-sponsored immigrant and non-immigrant visa petitions.
