NDU educates joint Warfighters in critical thinking and the creative application of military power to inform national strategy and globally integrated operations, under conditions of disruptive change, in order to conduct war.
ResponsibilitiesThe VP-AD/COO advises the NDU-P on all enterprise business and
operational support matters within the University and is a key
member of the University executive leadership team.
Focuses their leadership on strategic planning, resource
allocation, organizational design and governance, relevance,
coherence and integration of University programs in support of
academic excellence, change management, institutional improvement
and personnel management.
Ensures delivery of high quality, efficient and effective
enterprise business and operational support for NDU's rigorous
academic programs, making use of best practices to support joint
education, leader development, and scholarship.
The VP-AD/COO assists the Provost, in their duties as the Chief
Academic Officer, who is responsible and accountable for the
relevance and efficacy of all academic programs, research and
academic and enterprise business support functions including their
regional and joint military accreditation.
The VP-AD/COO provides leadership to the Component Deans of
Administration, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Human Capital
Officer (CHCO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), Director of
Operations and Director of Facilities and Engineering.
Background or Security Investigation: This is a special sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security determination to occupy a special sensitive position within the agency as a condition of employment.Must be a U.S. Citizen
Qualifications Master's degree is required; PhD or terminal degree is desirable.A minimum of 10 years of senior-level management experience in complex, multi-functional organizations.
Leadership experience an institution of higher learning and demonstrated effectiveness as a leader in higher education is desirable.
Strong record of innovation and institutional improvement.
Demonstrated ability to lead collaboratively and manage a diverse workforce.
Experience collaborating with senior leaders across an institution and leading teams to enable a culture of collegiality and shared governance.
Demonstrated ability to strategically develop and implement a shared vision through open dialogue and transparency.
Demonstrated ability to create a climate that fosters respect among students, faculty, staff, and administration from a range of diverse backgrounds, ideas, and perspectives.
Demonstrated ability to develop diverse networks and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of an organization.
Knowledge and experience in regional and professional accreditation policies and standards is desirable.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with enterprise business and operational support program design, development and delivery and personnel development and performance.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; with a demonstrated ability to build effective and productive relationships.
Demonstrated experience recruiting, developing and leading/managing personnel.
Demonstrated record of successfully developing organizational vision, mission, strategy and goals and implementing the policies and processes necessary to successfully execute within available resources in a continuously changing environment.
Demonstrated record of successfully leading change in complex organizations; includes knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools, experience with the completion of change management assessments, ability to identify, analyze and prepare risk mitigation tactics, ability to identify and manage anticipated resistance, ability to consult and coach project teams, experience with the creation of actionable deliverables for the five change management levers: communications plan, sponsor roadmap, coaching plan, training plan, resistance management plan.
Demonstrated record of successfully providing leadership and strategic direction over human capital, financial management and information technology resources across complex organizations.
Professional Military Education experience is desired.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.
