General Summary/Purpose:

Under the supervision and direction of faculty and study team members, the research assistant will help out with various activities vital to the large research study of school-based vision care in Baltimore.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

  • Data entry in study database, resolving issues with missing data
  • Organizing and maintaining research files
  • Packing and Unpacking materials and equipment for transportation to/from screening.
  • Support project lead in designing study forms
  • Support other research activities
  • Preparing study recruitment and education materials
  • Operating basic office machines
  • Lend general support to office as needed; includes filing, record keeping and other duties as assigned based on the needs of the research program.
  • Assist the study team with the protocol review process and assist in the creation of study-related research documents.
  • Assists in Data Management and coordinates data management activities. Generates, reviews, and resolves data queries.
  • Communicate progress to the project/study teams on an ongoing basis.
  • The candidate will assist in project meetings and conference calls; assure that delivery and report schedules are met as required by the funding agency; track completion of assigned tasks and any other duties as needed.
  • The candidate will also assist with the development of project-related manuscripts and help lead synthesis of project-related activities, including participation/presentation on conference calls.
  • Perform literature searches and summaries, draft manuscripts from study reports and protocols, reformatting references for manuscripts, and preparation of tables and figures for publication.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 2 years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in related discipline or Master’s in public health, epidemiology, and health services research.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Candidate must have exceptional organizational skills.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
