Job Summary
The Cha and Goodwin labs in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering encourages applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to start Fall 2020! This position will lead a NIH funded project where the focus is to develop innovative bioconjugation and DNA-mediated cell assembly strategies for rapid creation of self-assembled multicellular scaffolds with programmable shapes, sizes, and dimensions. The research will develop a DNA mediated bottom-up approach to rapidly generate large-area, close-packed skin cell arrays with predetermined final cell sheet thickness and controllable cell-cell spacing, joined together by reversible, programmable bonds. It is anticipated that these cell sheets will boast significantly improved mechanical properties over current state-of-the-art, including robustness, compliance, resistance to tearing, and even self-healing.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Who We Are
Research in the Biomolecular Materials and Nanoscale Assembly Lab is passionate about the design and use of chemistry, biology, and chemical engineering to synthesize and build well-defined organic-inorganic systems from nanoscale building blocks. Because biological molecules, such as peptides, DNA, and proteins, provide significant capabilities for the assembly of nanoscale materials, a significant portion of the research centers at developing bio-nano interfaces and using biomolecular interactions for the assembly. Specific applications include engineering novel protein nanosensors for in vitro and in vivo detection, using DNA for nanoparticle thin film device fabrication, and developing novel bio-inorganic interfaces for catalysis. Recent efforts are geared toward methods to use DNA interactions to assemble 2- and 3D cellular arrays for tissue engineering.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The research will utilize a combination of cell and protein engineering, DNA nanotechnology, hydrogel and surface modification, and tissue engineering mechanics. The postdoc will work as part of an interdisciplinary team formed of current postdocs and graduate students in the Cha and Goodwin labs. Our labs are currently housed in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building at CU Boulder which opened in 2012 to facilitate collaborations between scientists and students from multiple fields to address specific challenges in the biosciences and medicine.
What We Can Offer
The anticipated starting salary will be $53,000.00, commensurate with experience.
