Equity & Equal Opportunity Specialist

Department: Anti-Discrimination

Summary Description:
Serves as initial decision-maker for formal cases processed through our Anti-Discrimination and Gender-Based Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Violence policies; consults with Title IX Coordinator(s) on allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation under the college's Gender-Based Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, and Sexual Violence and Anti-Discrimination policies; serves as a resource for the Title IX/anti-discrimination workgroups: 1) Education and Prevention, 2) Resource, Advisory, and Advocacy, and 3) performance management. Works closely with the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators on policies and procedures, ensuring equity and due process for all parties involved in resolution.


Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in conducting investigations and/or working within student services, human resources, equity/inclusion, legal services, equal opportunity, or Title IX/anti-discrimination areas; experience as a hearing adjudicator.

Additional requirements include ability to exercise independent judgment, to assess and negotiate complex and highly sensitive situations, maintain confidentiality, be discrete, and demonstrate neutrality in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility; knowledge of all appropriate institutional policies, legal statutes, and ensure that CC complies with all; seasoned experience in exercising independent judgment and decision making, maintaining effective relationships with a variety of individuals in a complex organizational structure and a proven track record of creating an inclusive environment of representatives from diverse communities; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines; flexibility; self-directed; a positive attitude, and promote a sense of teamwork. Must possess broad experience in effective analysis and judgment in the review and interpretation of policies, procedures, and practices; and sound knowledge of relevant government regulations; experience working with automated management information systems, experience working with enterprise database systems, and high level proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.


Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s or law degree in related field; five or more years of experience conducting investigations and/or working within student services, human resources, equity/inclusion, legal services, equal opportunity, or Title IX/anti-discrimination areas.
