The Office of Undergraduate Admission at the University of Virginia invites applications for the Director of Diversity, Inclusion and Outreach/Associate Dean of Admission. Reporting to the Dean of Admission, and serving on the Dean’s leadership team, the Director is responsible for developing strategies to recruit and enroll underrepresented and underserved students to the University. The “Outreach” division within the Admission office at UVA was established over twenty years ago. Today the “Outreach” team is responsible for the creation and management of underrepresented, first generation, LGBTQ, low income, and other underserved student recruitment strategies, programs, and events.

The Director will be responsible for developing a comprehensive, data driven recruitment and communication plan designed to increase student access, opportunity, inclusion, and diversity at UVA. Key responsibilities include: serving as the liaison to the Office of Student Financial Services; managing first-year Admission scholarship programs; establishing and strengthening minority alumni engagement events; and the identification and review of candidates for University-wide Bridge and diversity programs. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for establishing and expanding partnerships with Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) and underserved high schools across the state and country.

The Director will supervise and mentor a team of four admission staff members who work closely with UVA student interns to create programs and opportunities designed to increase student diversity and access. Additional responsibilities include serving on University-wide committees on behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admission, maintaining and utilizing data to enhance the recruitment of underrepresented and underserved populations, conducting information sessions for prospective students and their families, evaluating first-year and transfer applications, coordinating high school and special groups’ visitations, and working closely with the Office of Diversity and Equity and the Office of African American Affairs, as well as a multitude of student organizations on the University Grounds.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of undergraduate admission and financial aid practices; familiarity with CRM systems such as Slate; experience with national programs/organizations such as Quest Bridge, Posse, and NACAC; strategic planning and the ability to cultivate enduring collaborative relationships across the institution and beyond; excellent public speaking and writing skills; an aptitude for creative, inspiring and accomplished leadership. Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Applicants must have the ability and willingness to travel and work some nights and weekends.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
