Psychology: Assistant Professor of Psychology - 000279

The University of Richmond Department of Psychology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with training in clinical psychology or an associated field, with expertise and a research program in one or more of the following areas: (a) mental health disparities; (b) diversity sciences; (c) child/adolescent studies; (d) lifespan studies; and/or (e) family systems. The position begins in the 2021-22 academic year.

The University of Richmond is a private university located just a short drive from downtown Richmond, Virginia. Through its five schools and wide array of campus programming, the University combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college and a large university. With nearly 4,000 students, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio, and more than 90% of traditional undergraduate students living on campus, the University is remarkably student-centered, focused on preparing students "to live lives of purpose, thoughtful inquiry, and responsible leadership in a global and pluralistic society."

The University of Richmond is committed to developing a diverse workforce and student body, and to modeling an inclusive campus community which values the expression of difference in ways that promote thriving in teaching, learning, personal development, and institutional success. Our academic community strongly encourages applications that are in keeping with this commitment. For more information on the department and its programs, please see https://psychology.richmond.edu/

Applicants should visit our Career Site (http://jobs.richmond.edu) and submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and three statements in line with the descriptions below:

Applicants will be evaluated in the following three areas with equal weight: potential for contributions to inclusivity, equity, and diversity at the University and in the field; teaching and mentoring; and research and scholarship.

Statement #1: Describe potential contributions to the goals of Making Excellence Inclusive at UR and in the field, including relevant knowledge and understanding, track record, and future plans. Statement may address contributions via research, teaching and mentoring, and/or service.

Through their teaching, mentoring, research, and/or service activities, strong applicants will demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the University of Richmond's inclusion, equity, and diversity priorities and for promoting the success and well-being of people of color, members of sexual and gender minority groups, first generation college students, immigrant students, and people with disabilities.

Statement #2: Describe teaching and mentoring philosophy, practices, experience, and future plans.

Strong applicants will demonstrate potential to effectively teach upper-level psychopathology courses and clinically themed seminars, as well as Introduction to Psychological Science and/or Psychology Methods and Analyses, using evidenced-based and inclusive teaching practices. Strong applicants will demonstrate potential for mentoring undergraduates in their research program, for engaging students in community-based learning experiences, and for advising students pursuing careers in clinical settings.

Statement #3: Describe research program, outcomes, feasibility of research involving undergraduates at UR, and future plans.

Strong applicants will demonstrate potential for sustaining a high-quality independent program of research in our setting that produces peer-reviewed scholarship, involves undergraduates in substantive research outcomes, and makes an impact on their research field, clinical practice, or public policy. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation.

Review of applications will commence September 12th, 2020 and continue until the position is filled.
