FACULTY OF SCIENCE
Department of Biology
The Department offers two BSc (Hons) programmes in Applied Biology,
and in Bioresource and Agricultural Science; and MPhil and PhD
degrees in Biological Science, Environmental Science and
Agricultural Science. Strong emphasis is placed on both quality
education and scholarly research.
The Department is recruiting tenure-track faculty members who are
independent, energetic, and ambitious scientists, and commit to
excellence in both research and teaching in the following
areas:

Soil Science / Crop Protection / Crop Production /
Horticulture (Two Vacancies)
Interested applicants should have a PhD degree in agriculture,
horticulture, forestry, plant biology, plant breeding agronomy or
related fields, with postdoctoral training and a track record of
outstanding research publications and strong externally-funded
research projects. Candidates who use cutting-edge approaches to
address research in plant disease control, soil fertility,
molecular soil biology, bioconversion, soil microbial ecology,
bio-products, microbial fertilizers, molecular plant pathology,
plant genomics and gene engineering, crop genetic and breeding, and
probiotics-soil-plant relationship for crop improvement are highly
desirable.
Environmental Microbiology (One Vacancy)
Interested applicants should have a PhD degree in environmental
microbiology, environmental molecular biology, environmental
biotechnology or related fields, with postdoctoral training and a
proven record of internationally-recognized research expertise,
outstanding research publications and strong externally-funded
research projects. Candidates who use cutting-edge approaches to
address research in environmental technology, environmental
remediations, environmental contamination and environmental
bioinformatics are highly desirable.
Colleagues recruited will have access to over HK$1M of seed money
and appropriate research facilities/support, as well as a generous
array of competitive research funding from internal and external
sources.
The above three positions are on tenure-track with initial
appointment on three-year fixed-term contracts. Re-appointments
thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured
appointments are expected to be attained within six years.
