U.S. Latina/o/x Studies Tenure-Track Position

The Latina/o Studies Program at Williams College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in U.S. Latina/o/x Studies, to begin July 1, 2021. The program seeks a U.S. Latina/o/x Studies scholar whose research and teaching center urban ethnography, urban studies, inter-racial and inter-ethnic relations, with attention to issues like migration, gentrification, the built environment, and community activism and organizations. Other areas of intersecting interest include U.S. Central American Studies, Latinx Indigeneities, and/or Afro-Latinidades. With a focus on contemporary issues, we seek a scholar who embraces and advances interdisciplinary approaches, particularly in the realm of interdisciplinary social sciences and/or cultural studies, as well as comparative, transnational, and relational approaches to Latinx Studies.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. at the time of their appointment. We welcome interdisciplinary degrees in fields such as Comparative Racial and Ethnic Studies and related interdisciplinary fields or disciplines. The successful candidate will be able to teach a range of courses in interdisciplinary U.S. Latina/o/x Studies. The Latina/o Studies Program at Williams has demonstrated success in mentoring and supporting pre-tenure faculty, and we are especially interested in candidates from underrepresented groups as well as individuals who have experience in working with diverse student populations. • a cover letter detailing research and teaching interests, as well as experience teaching a broadly diverse student body and/or creating an inclusive classroom climate;

• a separate brief description of two or three courses you would be especially interested in teaching.

Candidates who advance to the second stage of the search will be invited to submit an article-length writing sample or dissertation chapter, and three letters of recommendation. We anticipate inviting a short list of candidates for Skype/virtual interviews during January 2021, with in-person or virtual campus visits to follow. We are attentive to these uncertain times and the changing health restrictions wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Beyond following all state and college policies, we will work with candidates as we navigate this shifting terrain during this search process.
