Job Description

This faculty appointment will support the College’s primary-care, surgery and medicine clerkship that focuses on enhancing the educational opportunities for our students in a primary care setting as well as benefiting the health and well being of the animals and residents in the New River Valley area. This support will include working with our partners at the Mountain View Humane Spay/Neuter Clinic in Christiansburg, VA who provide quality, affordable veterinary medical services with a focus on spay/neuters for the surrounding community. The successful candidate will supervise students assigned to this clerkship and oversee educational delivery including the provision of veterinary services associated with such efforts. This clerkship is core clerkship, i.e. required of all DVM students. The successful candidate will be directly involved in the clinical instruction of professional students in the Veterinary Hospital(s) of Mountain View Humane as well as supervising DVM students as they provide wellness care at other humane societies in the local region (e.g., Montgomery County Shelter). Students on this clerkship will be involved in the spay and neuter program of MVH as well as other medical and surgical procedures that are performed at this hospital, which include but are not limited to medical workup leading to diagnosis and treatment, preventive care including vaccinations, dental care, and minor surgical procedures. The successful candidate may also supervise students visits to other shelters in the region as well helping with the ongoing development of student surgical skills in the College’s Clinical Skills Lab. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching and to excellent patient management and client services. They will also be expected to participate in continuing education programs of the College and participate in faculty governance activities as needed and appropriate.

Required Qualifications

DVM or equivalent degree; Minimum of three years of clinical experience

Preferred Qualifications

Board eligibility or board certification in a veterinary specialty recognized by AVMA American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS); Track record of teaching excellence
