A Regional Admission Counselor is responsible for representing Bard College to multiple constituencies, including prospective students and their families, Bard Alumni/ae, and school/community contacts. Reporting to the Director of Admission and coordinating with the Regional Admission Coordinator this counselor engages in recruiting initiatives and follow-up to meet application and enrollment goals.

A counselor manages planning and follow-up of recruitment activities including high school visits, college fairs, prospective family and counselor receptions, and individual meetings and interviews. This position is responsible for student admission counseling, recruitment travel, event management of the assigned geographic areas, and application reading. Secondary responsibilities include new recruitment program development and implementation, and other duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the Director of Admission and is supported by the Regional Admission Coordinator.

The position requires 4-6 months of training on the Bard College campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

Description of Duties:
Admission travel, recruitment and counseling:
  • Fall recruitment is specifically grounded in the months of September-November and Spring recruitment in the months of March-May with occasional travel for fairs, trainings for conferences during the summer months
  • Represent Bard College through high school visits, college fairs, community college visits, counselor functions, alumni/ae receptions, community-based organizations
  • Travel for up to 20 weeks out of the year covering school visits, college fairs, prospective and accepted student events (sometimes coordinated with Alumni/ae Affairs and Development)
  • Participate in in-office trainings (where appropriate and applicable – not common for counselors living outside the US)
  • Plan recruitment activities in assigned market region based on review of high schools, alumni presence, recent enrollment history and other relevant considerations
  • Plan, develop, and implement outreach and recruitment activities to meet undergraduate-enrollment goals
  • Meet with and advise prospective students and their families about the college selection process and provide information about opportunities available to them at Bard
  • Conduct interviews for prospective students
  • Manage recruitment-related correspondence (emails, letters, phone calls) with students from designated recruitment territory. Initiate outreach and recruitment messages and respond to inquiries for information about Bard College programs, application status, and other information essential to the college selection and admission processes
Other Duties as Assigned:
  • Participate in on-campus programs such as Commencement, Fall Open House, Admitted Students Day etc. assisting Director of Communications as needed (where appropriate and applicable – not common for counselors living outside the US)
  • Attend workshop days and case study events at the request of individual high schools
  • Coordinate events with Alumni/ae Affairs, Development and Bard College Berlin when appropriate
  • Assists the Director of Admission special projects and tasks as assigned
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Ability to work some irregular hours and travel on occasional nights and weekends
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ease in using technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to function independently from a remote location
