Job Summary:
Bard College Information Technology is seeking a Lead Instructional Designer to build capacity for online and blended learning. Partnering with academic leadership and technologists, this instructional designer’s role will include a combination of course design, faculty support, and helping to determine the best tools and practices to translate liberal arts pedagogies into online and blended formats. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Duties:
  • Design online, blended and micro-learning exchanges using creative, innovative techniques and technologies, informed by evidence-based research and ongoing assessment.
  • Design, develop, test frameworks that blend international virtual exchanges and classroom-based, seminar-style instruction.
  • Work with faculty to develop training programs for online and blended learning exchanges.
Required qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, or a related discipline; Ph.D. or Ed.D welcomed.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing course components for blended or online educational contexts. A combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Ability to build and foster relationships within the institution and among international colleagues, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and creating consensus.
Experience and proficiency with the following:
  • Learning management systems, like Moodle, Canvas, BrightSpace or equivalent.
  • Collaboration suites like G Suite, Microsoft Office 365 or equivalent.
  • Video conferencing solutions like Zoom, Blue Jeans, or similar technologies.
  • Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Attention to detail; ability to set and manage timelines; flexibility and responsiveness.
Preferred qualifications:
  • In-depth understanding of current instructional design practices, with a focus on blended learning and microlearning.
  • Prior teaching experience at a liberal arts institution.
  • Knowledge of universal design and best practices for digital accessibility.
  • Experience working collaboratively within diverse, cross-cultural environments.
  • Candidates who have experience with coordinating virtual international exchanges and with bilateral course development will be most competitive.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment
