Job Summary
The North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NC CASC) encourages applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher ! This position will coordinate two interdisciplinary working groups to synthesize the science around climate change and climate change adaptation in the grassland socio-ecological systems of the North American Great Plains. The two working groups will synthesize available information on:
- The priorities, challenges, and climate change information needs faced by natural resource managers, Tribal Nations, and rural communities in the region; and
- The projected ecological impacts of climate change on grassland ecosystems. Both working groups will focus on grasslands in the NC CASC region: Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas. For more information on the project, please click here .
An overarching goal of this project is to identify under-served communities, ongoing or planned adaptation actions across the region, and information gaps that can advise future research directions for the NC CASC. This is a limited-term position.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
Who We Are
The mission of the NC CASC ( https://nccasc.colorado.edu/ ) is to work with natural and cultural resource managers to identify, capture, and apply the information they need to understand and adapt to a changing climate. The NC CASC is a partnership between the US Geological Survey, CU Boulder, and five consortium partners. The NC CASC cultivates co-production of measurable science, where partner input is incorporated throughout the research process to better ensure that the science developed advises key management decisions. Further, the NC CASC is committed to open science, making data, code, and tools open and reproducible, to better enable a broad community of participants in the scientific process. The North Central center is one of eight regional climate centers in the national CASC network ( https://www.usgs.gov/land-resources/climate-adaptation-science-centers ) built to help meet the changing needs of land and resource managers across the country. The NC CASC serves primarily Department of Interior agencies, state fish and wildlife agencies, and Tribal partners across a seven-state region, including Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas. The Postdoctoral Researcher will be co-located with a cohort of postdocs and research scientists in a collaborative and dynamic environment, with opportunities for training and professional advancement.
At CIRES, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, more than 800 environmental scientists work to understand the dynamic Earth system, including people’s relationship with the planet. CIRES is a partnership of NOAA and the University of Colorado Boulder, and our areas of expertise include weather and climate, changes at the Earth’s poles, air quality and atmospheric chemistry, water resources, and solid Earth sciences. Our vision is to be instrumental in ensuring a sustainable future environment by advancing the scientific and societal understanding of the Earth system.
