Job Description

Leads the day to day operations of the Systems team and manages the competing priorities set forth by the University Scholarships and Financial Aid Leadership. Responsible for managing and implementing complex projects independently and providing recommendations on future enhancements and emerging technologies that will streamline workflows for Financial Aid processes. Responsible for all system upgrades including impact analysis, testing, and implementation in coordination with Academic Applications team. Coordinates new aid year set up and special projects. Stays current on modifications to Banner through the Banner e-communities and seamlessly integrates improvements with current system functionality to meet and maintain compliance for the university. Provides subject matter expert knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Financial Aid to research, identify, and propose process improvements for University Scholarships and Financial Aid at Virginia Tech. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Core Competencies:
• Experience with Ellucian Banner, SQL programming/coding, and Microsoft desktop applications and operating systems
• Strong skills in process management and report writer language (Argos or similar high-level report writer)
• Strong organizational skills, ability to follow written and oral procedures with attention to detail and re-prioritizing tasks as demands for resources and information vary
• Initiative and problem-solving skills to identify, research, and solve complex IT programming and financial aid problems
• Excellent written and oral communication, documentation, and presentation skills. Ability to work in a diverse environment
• Ability to multi-task and successfully complete assignments and projects under tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently in a complex business environment and as a part of a team
• Ability to extract data from transactional database to perform data analysis and anticipate the data needs to assist Leadership in making strategic financial aid decisions for the University

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or other related field and significant training and experience
• Demonstrated progressive experience in a Financial Aid office (preference given to experience at a mid to large university setting)
• Ellucian Banner Experience, specifically the Ellucian Financial Aid Module
• Expertise with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Excel
• Demonstrated experience writing complex SQL queries and working relational database designs
• Experience with the supervision of staff

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field of study
• Experience implementing large, complex technical projects to streamline efficiencies in a Financial Aid office for a midsize to large university
• Possess a working knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations
• Experience working with COD, CPS, SAIG, NSLDS, and ELM
