General Summary/Purpose

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Research Nurse to coordinate and implement various research studies. The applicant will report to the Research Program Manager, the Principal Investigator, and Division Director of Gynecologic Specialties.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Perform clinical procedures including vital signs, phlebotomy, and other clinical procedures within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act and as directed by specific protocols

  • Assist with development and writing of protocols, consent forms, and regulatory documents, as appropriate
  • Assist the Research Program Coordinator in data management and source documentation
  • Recruit, screen, and enroll eligible participants into clinical protocols
  • Maintain study records and complete study documentation
  • Monitor subjects throughout the duration of the study
  • Record and document protocol deviations
  • Manage laboratory abnormalities and adverse experiences as directed by protocols, and when appropriate, notify the PI and Research Program Manager
  • Perform physical assessments of study patients as needed during visits
  • Coordinate laboratory specimen processing and handling
  • Meet regularly with the study team to discuss updates
  • Pay attention to detail and the ability to complete multiple tasks on a timely basis
  • Routine review the literature to identify emerging content relevant to divisional research needs
  • Conduct key stakeholder interviews and focus groups
  • Contribute to manuscript development and submission
  • Propose alternative methods to meet individual patient needs
  • Ability to work with patients and show a high degree of motivation in enrolling participants

Minimum Qualifications(Required)

Must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland

  • Bachelor's (BSN) degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Active Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required.
  • Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
  • Acceptable completion of the JHH or BMC credentialing process is required within two weeks of start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in research
  • At least 1 year of relevant clinical nurse research administration experience
  • Master’s degree preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be a registered nurse licensed in the State of Maryland or state of current practice for the entire duration employment

  • Knowledge of standard computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office)
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of HIV, STIs, and HIV prevention methods

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
