Air University's eSchool of Graduate Professional Military Education invites applications for the faculty position of Learning Design, Development, and Innovation Coordinator. The purpose of this position is to provide expertise and perform substantial duties in the design, development, and implementation of innovative, online graduate-level education for Officer Professional Military Education.
OrganizationThe eSchool prepares seasoned Military Officers of all services, International Officers, and mid-career Civil Service employees to assume positions of higher responsibility within the military and other government arenas. The organization offers a Master's of Military Operational Art and Science degree and other graduate-level programs of study. Faculty serving in the eSchool provide academic expertise supporting the design, development, and delivery of the education programs and develop curriculum for online graduate-level courses.
The eSchool's mission is to prepare officers to develop, employ and command air, space and cyberspace power in joint, multinational and interagency operations. Curriculum is designed to produce more effective officers serving in the tactical, operational, and strategic-level command and staff positions. The more successful officers are those that possess and demonstrate abilities in a variety of diverse areas, including: academic, personal, professional, interpersonal, and more. The aim of this organization is to foster these abilities, to encourage a combination of analytical and practical tools required by leaders charged with the nation's defense.
This organization is comprised of interdisciplinary programs that require a unique synergy of academic and operational expertise with a focus at the tactical, operational, and strategic level of war. Therefore, the incumbent may be required to team with subject matter experts across disciplines to design and develop curriculum and implement desired instructional strategies. Candidates should be familiar with personalized learning, adaptive learning and competency-based learning.
ResponsibilitiesThe primary focus of the position is on graduate-level, online instructional design and effective incorporation of instructional technology into distance learning (DL) programs. The position also requires research and management expertise in online faculty development, online academic operations, and online student-centered, adult learning approaches that promote critical thinking. The Learning Design, Development and Innovation Coordinator will advise the Dean and curriculum development functions on matters of online, graduate-level education instructional/learning design, online instructional technology integration, best practices in student-centered, online delivery and support systems spanning the full continuum of officer distance learning PME.
The Coordinator will organize and manage a high-quality professional development continuum for all faculty associated with officer PME programs - as a minimum, focuses faculty development elements on adult, online education methodologies, state-of-the-art educational technology, and online instructional design best practices and techniques. She or he will provide administrative support for functions and special projects as directed to include service on internal and external committees, providing advice and counsel as appropriate. Finally, the Coordinator will conduct research, identifying innovative and emerging online instructional design and educational technology to include integration approaches in graduate-level educational programs.
Qualifications The position requires a broad knowledge and wide range of experience/skill in online, graduate-level instructional design methods and online education technologies; in adult, student-centered distance learning strategies in graduate education; and broad knowledge and skill integrating instructional design into teaching and learning in graduate-level distance learning programs. Incumbent should have specialized skill in the application of interactive education technology and instruction delivery systems, and in designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating faculty development programs.
