Multimedia Production Specialist

Purpose of Position:

  • The Multimedia Production Specialist is responsible for the integration of multimedia into the design and development of online courses. Working to meet faculty needs in AAP, the Multimedia Production Specialist coordinates and develops multimedia instructional content for online courses and IRC projects, and assists in the implementation of other multimedia technologies.

Note:This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Knowledge and Skill:

  • Ability to apply principles and techniques of multimedia design, simulations, development and their integration and application to a Learning Management System (Blackboard LMS is preferred)
  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop) Apple Final Cut Pro, and other video and audio editing and compression programs
  • Strong Motion graphic experience
  • Exceptional judgment, keen eye for video, and strong creative skills with a focus on creating engaging and pedagogically sound videos
  • Ability to make both aesthetic and content judgments about video, as well as assemble and edit material to create compelling and visually interesting videos
  • Strong storytelling skills
  • Understanding and experience with broadcasting, webcam technology, screen casting and podcasting, servers, streaming audio and video formats and techniques, Web 2.0 tools, YouTube video technology, iTunes U, embedding multimedia content for online delivery, tracking software and ticketing systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage post-production and publishing of a high volume of content as part of a content production team
  • Experience with video finishing, including audio editing, audio mixing, and color correction
  • Ability to work as a self-starter, to work on multiple projects, and to consistently deliver high-quality media
  • Capability to interface efficiently with creative/media, instructional design, and technology teams.
  • Ability to apply principles of human-centered design to provide online education to persons with disabilities and knowledge of Universal Design principles, ADA requirements and accessibility standards
  • Understanding and experience with copyright and fair use guidelines for using multimedia materials
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize tasks, and the ability to deal with multiple constituencies concurrently
  • Must be a proactive problem-solver, have the ability to take the initiative with projects, and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to acquire, synthesize and share expert professional knowledge of current and emerging instructional technologies
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are required to work well with faculty, staff, and vendors

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Three years in-depth experience in multimedia, distribution systems, satellite communications, distance learning, electronic security, web-based applications, networks, principles of Internet, web casting and streaming media Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Bachelors degree in multimedia, or related degree

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in multimedia, or related degree
  • Minimum of two years of in-depth experience in video pre-production, production and post-production
  • In-depth knowledge of several graphic design software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign
  • High level of understanding of design concepts, principles, processes, color theory, and typography
  • In-depth knowledge of video and audio production
  • In-depth knowledge of video editing platforms (Final Cut X, PremierePro, and AfterEffects), camera operation and lighting, audio recording, digital photography, and/or media management
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, particularly in client-representative interactions
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web development tools
  • Knowledge of Maxon Cinema 4D, Unreal, or Unity
  • Knowledge of Social media content creation, Game design, Animation, 3D Modeling, or extended reality technologies

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Design, Development and Implementation

  • Serve as a member of a course development team, which may include subject-matter experts, program directors, instructional designers, multimedia specialists, etc
  • Use multimedia design knowledge and experience to create clear and engaging multimedia materials/resources that effectively meet the needs of IRC projects and courses
  • Design and develop multimedia objects including but not limited to: video presentations, animations, interactive content, narrated slide presentations, screen captures, audio recordings
  • Execute post-production of multiple video projects for inclusion in innovative online learning experiences, including editing, mixing, mastering, and color correcting video assets
  • Compress and upload final videos for publication
  • Interface with online video hosting platforms to deliver media and associated assets
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and direct details of photo/video shoots with content experts and project leads
  • Capture footage, direct, edit, and complete videos while coaching talent on how to effectively deliver messages and connect with the learning audience
  • Develop high quality and cutting-edge immersive media

Apply Universal Design principles, ADA requirements and accessibility standards to multimedia materials used in AAP courses

Faculty Training and Development

  • Provide professional advice for use of multimedia in distance education courses
  • Provide training that focuses on multimedia tools and techniques as needed
  • Support faculty with copyright and fair use guidelines for using multimedia materials

Technological Research

  • Research emerging technology, new applications, and online learning tools for further recommendation and implementation
  • Keep the team knowledge current regarding advances in media technology and research about multimedia in a teaching environment
  • Implement new formats, technology, and integrations into online learning process

Special Project Lead

  • Support IRC marketing and branding efforts with video and graphics
