Position Responsibilities Payne Theological Seminary invites applications for a Program Director-Online Faculty position with full-time contract in our Mapping the Future of Black Methodism project. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience at the assistant or associate Professor level. A free-standing institution, founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Payne Theological Seminary’s mission is to prepare leaders for ministry in the African American tradition of liberation, reconciliation, social justice, and the dignity of all humankind. Equally crucial is Payne’s commitment to live out this mission through a vision to be recognized as a global leader in distance theological education. Payne offers two degrees- the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry.
The Program Director manages and administers all activities involved in the Mapping project, which covers the three major Black Methodist traditions---African Methodist Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal Zion, and Christian Methodist Episcopal. The Project Director must also demonstrate professional competence in online teaching, scholarship, and service in her/his academic discipline. This position requires that the Program Director be present on campus (i.e., (s)he cannot work remotely). Travel is also a requirement for the position. Responsibilities include:
- Creating a program to map the future of Black Methodist congregations,
- Organizing learning communities across several Black Methodist congregations in Ohio for the following purposes: (1) to create a valuable educational and training experience for participants and (2) to lay out a broad plan to work with local congregations to fulfill the mapping project,
- Offering an informed picture of the state of Black Methodist congregational life,
- Creating a database or repository of information that will serve to inform Black Methodist congregational live well beyond the grant period,
- Help establish a baseline from which congregations and denominations can develop strategic plans for missional growth and opportunity,
- Maintaining ongoing program assessment that directly impact ongoing program improvements and outcomes,
- Engaging with faculty and students to elicit input on curriculum and department decisions and activities,
- Developing, proposing, and managing approved Mapping project budget,
- Celebrating student accomplishments, as well as, coordinating academic advising
Applicants should demonstrate excellence in online teaching and a commitment to Payne Seminary’s vision and mission. The selected candidate is expected to engage in committee assignments with colleagues.
