Inaugural Deanship position for the newly
created School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
(STEM).
Primary Function:
Responsible for providing divisional leadership that supports the
mission, vision and strategic goals of the College and Academic
Affairs. Responsible for overseeing the development,
implementation, evaluation and management of the School’s
instructional programs, services, budget and employees of the
instructional disciplines/programs in Biology, Biotechnology,
Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Geology, and
Mathematics.
Provides leadership in curriculum development and
maintenance, academic assessment, strategic planning and budgeting;
employs enrollment management and retention strategies to support
student success of a dynamic and diverse student population, and
program health; and fosters collaborative working relationships
with faculty and staff within the school and among internal and
external stakeholders.
Responsibilities: (1) Provides
strategic, collaborative, innovative leadership and oversight of
departmental plans relating to academic programs, curriculum,
scheduling and learning environments to assure institutional
effectiveness and efficiencies, respond to student needs, and meet
accreditation and regulatory requirements. (2) Ensures that
School’s plans align with and support the College’s mission,
vision, strategic initiatives and the Academic Affairs goals. (3)
Provides leadership, supervision and guidance to faculty and staff
within the school; supports full-time faculty through the
onboarding, tenure and promotion processes; provides ongoing
support for all faculty throughout their careers. (4) Provides
leadership and oversight of programs and curriculum, instructional
delivery across all modalities, and academic assessment activities.
(5) Fosters the development of Areas of Study within the school to
support Guided Pathways and student success. (6) Enhances
non-credit to credit educational pathways for students. (7)
Supports enrollment management and marketing strategies to enhance
program health, recognition and growth. (8) Models and maintains
high performance professional standards and expectations. (9)
Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with
internal and external stakeholders. (10) Actively participates on
and/or leads various College committees, meetings, and workgroups.
(11) Develops, manages, and plans School’s operating and capital
budget(s). (12) Responds to faculty, staff and student
concerns in a timely manner, maintaining integrity and appropriate
confidentiality throughout the process. (13) Establishes and
maintains collaborative working relationships with business and
industry partners, agencies, community organizations and/or
education institutions. (14) Actively participates in professional
development relevant to higher education and their disciplinary
field. (15) Demonstrates and models the College’s
competencies: teamwork, initiative, development/supervision
of staff, customer service, and continuous professional development
and growth. (16) Implements special responsibilities, as
assigned by the supervisor.
Organizational Relationships:
(1) Responsible to the Vice President, Academic Affairs for
performance of assigned responsibilities. (2) Coordinates
work with member of the administrative team. (3) Relates role
to College goals and mission attainment. (4) Serves on the
President’s Cabinet.
Performance Standards:
Performance in this position is considered satisfactory when: (1)
mutually agreed upon objectives have been attained within a
specified time frame, (2) responsibilities of the position have
been carried out at a level consistent with performance objectives,
(3) effective cooperative relationships exist with the other
members of the administrative team.
Qualifications: (1)
Education: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited
higher education institution in a field related to an academic area
within the School of STEM. Doctoral degree preferred. (2)
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) knowledge of current
concepts in the instructional programs of all disciplines under
supervision; (b) ability to function effectively as a member of an
instructional team; (c) effective work with small groups; (d)
ability to develop programs; (e) effectiveness with students,
faculty and administrators; (f) ability to adapt to differences and
changes in program, colleague, student, and community
characteristics; (g) desire and ability to make decisions based on
an orientation to people that serves the clientele of the College;
(h) skills in interpersonal relations; (i) technical [computer] and
managerial skills; (j) ability to work with and relate to community
constituencies. (3) Experience: (a) Requires a minimum
of three to five [3-5] years of post-secondary teaching experience
in a field related to the School; Requires a minimum three [3]
years of progressive academic administrative experience in a
post-secondary institution. Prefer more than three [3] years
of progressive academic administrative experience. (b) Experience
teaching or managing delivery of online courses. (c) Community
college teaching and/or administrative experience a plus. (d)
Demonstrated experience required: Supervise, manage, evaluate and
develop faculty; budget development and management; enrollment
management, curriculum/program development and assessment; build
and foster collaborative community/workforce education
partnerships. (e) Experience working and supporting a diverse
student and faculty/staff population. An ability to
demonstrate inclusive pedagogical approaches to classroom
instruction encouraged. (f) Other desired experience: Working with
unionized faculty.
