The School of Liberal Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach General Psychology during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds. Adjuncts should be prepared to be flexible, teaching all or some of the semester face to face, hybrid or online.
We are seeking an adjunct instructor for PSY 111: General Psychology. PSY 111 is a 3-credit class. The adjunct pay rate is $2,800.00/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The psychology program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. While Dean College intends to hold classes face-to-face in the fall, all faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system (MyCourses) at least at a minimum level established by the college.
The course description is as follows: This course introduces students to the scientific discipline of psychology and prepares them for advanced coursework in the field. Students will study various perspectives of psychology: biological, behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, and humanistic. Topics may include: historical developments and theorists, research methods, biological systems, sensation, perception, learning, memory, human development, psychological disorders, psychotherapy, and social psychology.
- A Master's degree in psychology or related discipline area is required, a PhD preferred;
- College teaching experience preferred, particularly experience teaching first and second year undergraduates as well as online;
- Having strong computer skills, the ability to access the Internet, the college's online resources and website and a willingness to be responsive to students via digital tools is a requirement;
- Experience with or willingness to learn Moodle, our learning management system, and classroom media is necessary;
- The successful candidate will possess expertise in learner-centered teaching; use of technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy and the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
