Job Description:

SUNY Empire State College seeks applications for an inspiring, experienced, and accomplished leader to serve as Dean of the School of Nursing and Allied Health at our Saratoga, NY location.

 

The mission of the School of Nursing is congruent with the college's mission in creating learning environments that promote critical thinking, social responsibility and lifelong learning. The School of Nursing prepares nurses as leaders and full partners on interdisciplinary teams in complex health care environments within a global community.

 

The Dean reports to the Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves as a member of the Provost's Council. The Dean is responsible for academic policy and academic quality for the School of Nursing and Allied Health. As a member of the leadership team, the Dean plays an active role in developing and implementing the College's strategic goals, including the development and presentation of a budget which will sufficiently meet the academic needs of the program by providing adequate funds for salaries, facilities and instructional resources.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic leadership for the School of Nursing and Allied Health.
  • Demonstrates leadership to and the management of the nursing and allied health programs to include initiative in maintaining and improving the quality of instruction.
  • Maintains the School's compliance with regulatory and program accreditation standards.
  • Establishes and monitors academic standards for the nursing and allied health programs.
  • Monitors nursing and allied health program retention and placement rates; provides recommendations for improvement, as needed.
  • Responsible for the overall faculty and staffing plan for the School. Anticipates hiring needs and development of faculty and staff.
  • Ensures the timely preparation and delivery of performance programs and performance evaluations.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of orientation programs for new full and part time faculty.
  • Advances and supports high quality teaching, faculty research, and creative and professional activities.
  • Encourages research grants, expanded advancement effort, and public/private partnerships.
  • Ensures effective management of financial resources including budget planning and management.
  • Promotes the School and College profile, resource streams, and engagement with alumni and the community partners.
  • Represents the School of Nursing and Allied Health when serving on assigned College committees and attending community functions.
  • Advocates, advances and supports the College's commitment to fostering, academic, and non-academic activities to increase diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate in Nursing or Allied Health from a regionally accredited institution with responsible experience in academic administration at the departmental or similar level and successful experience in college or university level teaching.
  • If the Doctorate is in Nursing, candidate also needs to have an active New York State Registered Nursing license and strong understanding of nursing education.
  • Demonstrated success in obtaining federal, state, or private grants.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the broader educational and professional communities, including health service providers and community-based organizations.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a multi-cultural environment; and evidence of strong commitment to the goals of public higher education serving diverse populations across New York State.

 

Special Information:

  • This is a Management/Confidential position. 
  • Travel to regions with other Empire State College locations may be required, along with occasional evening and weekend obligations.
  • This position is located in Saratoga Springs, NY.
