Position Summary:

Engineer for the Thomson scattering diagnostic on the Madison Symmetric Torus (MST) plasma confinement device as well as Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory (WiPPL). Provides technical expertise in a research, development, or scientific program. Designs, modifies, and adapts equipment to create unique systems in support of research, development, or instruction, involving, but not limited to, the disciplines of electronics, mechanical/thermal systems, optics, and/or computers.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, physics or related field, with equivalent professional experience and knowledge required. MS or Ph.D. preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Six years of experience involving the design and operation of research apparatus, optical systems, and/or sophisticated pulsed power systems. Ability to work at the interface of electrical, mechanical, and optical engineering is essential. Modeling and design experience with electrical, mechanical, and optical software packages is essential.

This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
