JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Lead Officer, Public Safety and Security

Division: Operations

Evaluation Group: Staff

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Location: St. Charles Campus

Starting Salary: $ 17.20 per hour

Reports To: Associate Director, Public Safety and Security

Positions Supervised: N/A

Job Summary

The lead officer is responsible for providing oversight for security officers during assigned shifts and coordinating daily activities as directed by department leadership.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees security staff during assigned shifts
  • Reviews security reports and daily activity logs at the end of each shift
  • Ensures adherence to the Clery Act and Title IX policies and procedures
  • Ensures directives are carried out for special events and provides dignitary protection when needed
  • Acts as a primary point of contact during emergencies
  • Ensures all crimes on campus are reported and properly documented


Service Orientation

  • Assists all campus departments with safety concerns
  • Collaborates with other departments to promote safety programs


Communication, Collaboration, and Teamwork

  • Understands, supports and enforces university policies
  • Provides assistance for students experiencing emotional, academic or physical hardships
  • Assists in developing and administering trainings on security and emergency response for public safety and residential life staff


Planning, Organizing and Accountability

  • Ensures operational plans are carried out for events
  • Approves security incident reports
  • Disseminates information to subordinates at daily briefings


Initiative, Problem Solving and Decision Making

  • Participates in Public Safety and Security administrative tasks and committee assignments
  • Conducts monthly meetings with staff

  • Maintains professional integrity in all responsibilities


Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in law enforcement, military or campus security with progressive responsibility
  • St. Charles County security license
  • Valid operator’s license
  • Two or more years of college course work in criminal justice, or a related field preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Basic knowledge of criminal investigations
  • Knowledge of Title IX and Clery Act


Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job’s functions.

  • Evening and overnight work required
  • Availability during campus emergencies required
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
