Main Campus - Boston, MA

The Simmons University School of Business is seeking applicants for a faculty position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice, to begin July 1, 2021 (start date negotiable). As a mission-driven and inclusive institution, we invite applications from candidates who share our passion and commitment to empowering women to thrive in their careers.

The successful candidate will be a dedicated and excellent teacher capable of teaching a range of courses in the accounting discipline and working with students to achieve excellent post-Simmons outcomes. Additionally, the successful candidate will help to grow the small accounting program, including interfacing with the local professional community and providing service to the School of Business, University, and discipline.

Located in Boston's historic Fenway area, Simmons has a strong tradition of empowering women, challenging traditional gender roles, and expanding opportunities for historically marginalized groups. Simmons University was one of the first higher education institutions to focus on preparing women to become leaders and has evolved to become a university offering a women-centered undergraduate program, with graduate programs open to all. The Simmons School of Business is housed within the College of Organizational, Computational, and Information Sciences, which also includes the Division of Mathematics, Computing, and Statistics and the School of Library and Information Science. This unique organizational structure facilitates the exploration of interdisciplinary programs and scholarship that move beyond traditional disciplinary approaches to address broad questions of how data, information, and knowledge affect the human endeavor and how people work and live together in the 21st century. One key priority is to clearly articulate how science can be used for good and to promote equity. This includes the explicit integration of diverse perspectives, problem sets, and experiments reflecting today's most challenging social and scientific problems. The College envisions a professoriate with the boldness to implement a University-wide equity agenda.

The School of Business is committed to providing a premier business education as part of a liberal arts degree. Offering an AACSB-accredited undergraduate business degree (BSBA) in majors including accounting, finance, retail management, marketing, and management, Simmons prides itself on its small class sizes, its women-centered undergraduate mission, and its position as a small liberal arts university in the heart of Boston. Faculty members at Simmons are actively mentored and supported as they develop professionally. In addition to enjoying a collegial environment with an engaged alumnae/i base, faculty also benefit from close relationships with the New England business community.

We seek an innovative educator with demonstrated excellence or potential for undergraduate teaching and mentoring, creative curriculum development, and the ability to maintain currency in the field. Experience in non-academic positions; related academic, practitioner, or pedagogical research and publishing; and professional impact are also highly valued. The successful candidate will also have outstanding communication skills and enthusiasm for the field that will contribute to teaching excellence and student engagement. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in managerial accounting, cost accounting, taxation, and accounting information systems.

Professors of Practice carry a teaching load of seven courses per year (or the equivalent) and must maintain currency in the field through active professional engagement, writing and publishing, and/or consulting.

  • Earned master's degree or Ph.D. in Accounting or a related area
  • Significant professional accounting-related experience
  • Demonstrated excellence or capability to become an excellent teacher
