JOB SUMMARY

The Dining Room Attendant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service in residential and retail dining rooms to ensure optimal guest experiences by maintaining clean, comfortable, and safe spaces. This position requires individuals to multitask, move quickly, intuit the needs of guests, collaborate with co-workers, and maintain a neat and tidy physical appearance.

SUPERVISION

This position is supervised by the Unit Manager and by any manager or supervisor on duty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Greet guests with a warm, friendly demeanor.
2. Maintain knowledge of all food and beverage service stations, daily menu offerings, and unit operating procedures to attend to guests’ questions and/or concerns.
3. Remind guests of face-covering requirements.
4. Aid guests in maintaining required foot traffic patterns.
5. At the start of every shift, fill bottles with cleaning and sanitizing solutions and replenish as necessary. Locate broom and dustpan sets. Fill the front-of-house mop bucket. Clean and sanitize all in-use tables and chairs and set signs to denote tables that are available for use.
6. Bus, clean, and sanitize tables according to department operating procedures and standards every time a guest is finished using the table.
7. Clean, sanitize, and arrange chairs according to department operating procedures and standards every time a guest is finished using the chair.
8. Clean, sanitize, and arrange signs on tables to denote when they are available for use.
9. Clean and sanitize high touchpoints.
10. Sweep the dining room, including carpeted areas, and table bases.
11. Mop floors as needed and between meal services.
12. Aid food and beverage service stations in cleaning and replenishing items required for service.
13. Report to your supervisor to receive any additional tasks or duties.
14. Communicate any issues or questions to your supervisor as soon as possible, especially if you need assistance in providing service to a guest.
15. Perform all duties while maintaining safe physical distances when possible.
16. Uphold all required safety, service, and hygiene protocols and adjust practices to meet College and state regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

All team members in Dining Services at Ithaca College must adhere to all Ithaca College policies and Dining Services protocols and standards as they are directed and modified.

All staff members must:

1. Protect guests, co-workers, and themselves from illness by following all COVID-19 directives, including but not limited to, protocols for face coverings, PPE, hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing, physical distancing, daily health screenings, and reporting illness.
2. Maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
3. Be prepared to work in different service locations as staffing and business dictate.
4. Be prepared to work a varied schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as business dictates.
5. Perform all assignments and duties as instructed.
6. Participate in all professional training assigned by Dining Services, Ithaca College, and Human Resources.
7. Comply with all food safety and risk management policies and procedures.
8. Develop and demonstrate a multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful Ithaca College community. Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students, and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative, and inclusive work and living environment, and engage in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous work experience is required; experience in foodservice is preferred.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, Dining Room Attendants are regularly required to stand, walk, lift, or bend for prolonged periods. The position may require lifting up to 50 lbs. Talking and listening are also done regularly.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work for this position is generally in an indoor setting; however, there may be the need to participate in outside activities and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, they may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
