This is a 12-month non-tenured position (1 FTE) that will be 85% research; 15% extension (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station) available at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include: 1) Development of molecular methods for detection of strawberry pathogens, 2) Introduction of molecular methods for pathogen detection and identification for use in the diagnostic clinic and other strawberry related projects, 3) Refinement of heat treatment procedures to control the pathogens that are carried on nursery stock while minimizing damage to the plant. This position is not tenure-accruing. The faculty member may participate actively in graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing the results with their graduate students. The faculty member will also seek contract and grant funding actively to support their program.

Required:

  • A doctorate degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in closely related discipline is required.
  • Four years of experience in related area.
  • Knowledge of scientific methods including experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis.
  • High- level communication skills both verbal and written, interpersonal relationships, and procurement of extramural funding.
  • Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system. Candidates must also have a commitment to IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.


Preferred:

Postdoctoral experience is desirable.
