Forsyth Technical Community College is seeking a qualified Vice President for Student Academic Success and Chief Academic Officer to join our team. The Vice President and Chief Academic Officer will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the instructional division of the College. The ideal candidate is a dynamic, student-centered leader who embraces transformative teaching and learning strategies and is committed to equity of opportunity and success for all students. The Chief Academic Officer provides executive leadership for the transformative learning curriculum instructional division of the College. As the Chief Academic Officer, the Vice President is responsible for leading measurable expansion and improvement of teaching and learning at the College, including:
• Advancing the College’s student-centered culture through the
design and delivery of high-quality, innovative, and transformative
teaching and learning.
• Leading the design, implementation, and assessment of scholarly,
diverse, and learning-centered curriculum.
• Promoting the development of student-centered, equitable and
inclusive systems that enhance student learning, persistence, and
completion, and equity of opportunity and success for all
students.
• Developing strong relationships and partnerships within the
local, regional, state, and national educational ecosystem,
including collaborations with K-12 and university partners.
• Demonstrating a commitment to collaborative practices and shared
leadership.
• Overseeing the academic integrity of the College and ensuring
compliance with various regional and program-specific accreditation
and licensing agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least 3 years of senior administrative level leadership in
higher education.
• Significant teaching, leadership, and administrative experience
at the undergraduate level.
• Significant experience as an academic leader with
responsibilities relating to those described in the essential job
functions.
• Knowledge of and experience in working with educational
technologies, including distributed learning (distance
education).
• Demonstrated experience with regional accreditation, strategic
planning, assessment and institutional research in higher
education.
• A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job
with or without reasonable accommodation.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Strong knowledge of current curriculum, teaching, and learning
theory, design, development, and evaluation.
• Excellent listening, written, and oral communication
skills.
• Ability to plan and organize curriculum, teaching and learning
initiatives in cooperation with faculty and staff to increase
learning outcomes.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member with all segments of
the College.
• Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the
needs of diverse student populations.
• Understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the
comprehensive community college and the constituencies it
serves.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Five or more years of senior administrative level leadership
in higher education.
• Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
• Community College experience.
Essential Duties:
• Provide strategic leadership to all areas of academic affairs,
including curriculum, articulation, assessment, academic supports,
learning resources, and faculty development through the Center for
Teaching and Learning.
• Foster a student-centered culture of belonging and innovation
that encourages excellence and continuous transformation in
teaching and learning.
• Lead planning, development, and implementation of models to
enhance internal expertise in curriculum theory and design as well
as traditional and emerging teaching and learning strategies based
on effective practices and data advancing transformative techniques
and practices.
• Lead the design, development, implementation and ongoing
improvement of high-quality curriculum that meets the needs of the
businesses and industries we serve and ensures students graduate
with the skills and competencies they need to be successful when
they transfer to a four-year university and/or to build successful
and sustainable careers with livable wages.
• Work closely with the College President, the Executive Leadership
Team, and others to identify and create the conditions needed to
proactively, intentionally, and relationally support student
learning across the College as well as a comprehensive academic
program plan to meet the needs of the communities the College
serves.
• Partner with the Vice President for Economic and Workforce
Development to ensure seamless and successful connections and
articulated options exist for students to move from short-term
workforce certification programs to degree programs and to ensure
both short-term and degree programs meet the needs of the
businesses and industries we serve.
• Partner with the Vice President for Student Success Services and
the Associate Vice President for Recruitment and Enrollment
Management to ensure an equitable, seamless and transformative
student experience from the time of initial student inquiry to
application, through enrollment, persistence and ultimately to
graduation.
• Partner with the Vice President for Strategic Innovation and
Effectiveness to provide leadership on academic matters pertaining
to accreditation and to manage an effective and systematic process
for program reviews.
• Partner with the President and all other members of the Executive
Leadership Team to provide strategic leadership, grounded in the
College’s values of excellence, learning, innovation, diversity and
integrity, for achieving the College’s vision of being a catalyst
for equitable economic mobility by advancing excellence in
learning, completion, equity and post-graduation outcomes, and by
building a culture of belonging and intentionally designing a
college experience where each learner receives what they need to be
successful.
• Work closely with other educational institutions, as well as
local, state, and national entities to develop and align curriculum
and to promote and advance innovation in teaching and
learning.
• Lead development of recommended policies and procedures related
to academic affairs.
• Work with community groups, business, industries, non-profit
groups, and other parties as needed and applicable to develop
partnerships which result in improved service to students and the
community.
