General Description:  Niagara County Community College is seeking a dedicated, motivated individual to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise for the Henrietta G. Lewis Library’s public services unit to continue to move the library forward in innovative ways. As a full-time tenure track faculty member at Niagara County Community College, the successful candidate will possess the skills and drive to develop library services to support the College’s mission. Reporting to the Chair of the Henrietta G. Lewis Library, this position manages the Library’s public services including circulation, reference, and instruction.

Typical Work Activities:  

I. Access Services
• Coordinate all aspects of library circulation, including scheduling and supervising the circulation staff
• Campus lead for Alma Fulfillment and Discovery modules

II. Reference
• Provide research support for patrons at the reference desk as well as by phone, email, and chat
• Coordinate reference desk schedule

III. Library Instruction
• Develop and teach library instruction classes for in-person and online classes
• Create and maintain online research guides and/or instructional tools

IV. Divisional Support
• Advocate for the library within the College and the community
• Engage in outreach to students and faculty to ensure their awareness of library resources and services
• Participate in hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluation of librarians and staff
• Participate in high school to college committees or special interest groups; act as liaison with local high school librarians
• Assist in compiling statistics and analytical reports for strategic planning

V. Collection Development
• Read book reviews and make selections as appropriate; consider circulation statistics and reference requests to enhance collection

VI. Academic Advisement
• Advise students as assigned by the Student Resource Center

VII. Other duties as assigned (which may include but are not limited to):
• Serve on College committees
• Assist at Student Orientation
• Assist at Open House

Essential Functions:  Ability to work with and teach a diverse student population. Ability to be an active member in the division and serve on committees representing the division. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co-workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information.  Ability to advise students for classes, transfer options and career advice in the field. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position.

Required Qualifications:  

• ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science and/or Information Science
• Demonstrated knowledge of current library best practices, especially in relation to information literacy instruction and reference
• Demonstrated knowledge of library systems particularly Ex-Libris Alma, Primo, EZproxy, and LibGuides
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a culturally diverse environment
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with library patrons

Desired Qualifications:  

• Experience teaching student populations
• Demonstrated ability to integrate the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education into library instruction
• Evaluation and support of open educational resources (OER)
• Supervisory experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of Learning Management Systems, particularly Blackboard
• Experience with academic assessment and student learning outcomes
• Familiarity with ILLiad workflows
