University of Chester
Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor

The University of Chester is one of the oldest higher education providers in England. We are responsive to the communities we serve and are proud of the care we take in facilitating students and alumni to play a full and valuable role in society.  Established in 1839 and a university since 2005, the institution has seen significant investment and expansion, with current provision of a diverse curriculum to more than 15,000 students from 130 countries. With the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eunice Simmons, the University is refining its strategic direction and seeks to appoint a Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor to provide leadership and vision in support of this.

If successful you will be a key member of the Strategic Executive Team, and as Provost will have direct responsibility for the Deans of Faculty.  You will be a catalyst for innovation in the curriculum and will ensure that courses are optimised for delivery across nine distinctive sites, including Chester, Warrington, and Shrewsbury.  We have a demonstrable commitment to widening participation, impactful research, and strong private and public sector collaborations, all of which you will need to ensure are reflected in a future-focused portfolio. Your strategic input into facilities development will maximise the potential of new initiatives including the expansion of medical education, development of science and engineering and the showcasing of creative subjects.

Deputising for the Vice Chancellor across all areas of activity you will be a credible and approachable leader who will build the reach, reputation and profile of the University.  You will be confident in navigating the HE policy landscape and ensuring that students’ needs and ambitions remain central to our purpose. Collaborative working will be a core attribute as we seek to strengthen international links, improve progression opportunities and unlock the potential of our Further Education partnerships. Comfortable in your own abilities and yet still keen to grow and develop, you will readily engage across a range of key audiences and cross-cutting themes including sustainability and equality. In this role there is also an expectation of a demonstrable commitment to the University’s mission as a historic Christian foundation.

To deliver the above, we are seeking exceptional senior leadership experience and a track record of delivering genuine success and change. An ability to inspire and influence colleagues, work at pace and thrive in a dynamic environment will be vital; and a commitment to the values and ethos of the University essential.
