The Darden College of Education and Professional Studies at Old Dominion University is accepting applications for the Academic Advisor (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will serve as an Academic Advisor in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies – Career and Advising Resource Center for undergraduate programs in the college, select secondary education undergraduate programs, and select graduate teacher education programs.

Required Education: Master’s degree.

Required Qualifications: Some professional experience working in a higher education environment. Basic/working knowledge of student services in higher education. Strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality where appropriate and working knowledge of FERPA. Knowledge of higher education and student services, particularly with academic advising. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with little supervision. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with diverse constituencies. Knowledge of Banner Student Information System, FERPA, and maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, student development/student personnel, or counseling. Experience working in an advising office or setting. Some experience working with a new student orientation program. Some experience working with college level recruitment or college level admissions. Some knowledge of teacher education programs. Experience working with Banner Student Information System.
