THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a 12‐month, full‐time, tenure‐or non‐tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor effective January 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES of the position include teaching graduate courses in physical therapy in the candidate’s area of expertise; conducting, publishing, and presenting research; providing student advising and mentorship; clinical practice; contributing to student recruitment; collaborating with faculty; participating in curriculum development; and providing service to the Department, University, and community. The successful candidate must display effective teaching practices, provide experiential student learning opportunities, and engage in program related student and community engagement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include a DPT or a DPT/MSPT/BSPT with an academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or DSc). ABDs nearing completion of the degree will be considered. Candidates should have skills and/or experience in teaching, research, and service. Ideal candidates will complement our existing program and faculty. Those seeking to develop a research program should submit documentation demonstrating their research productivity in the form of peer‐reviewed publications and grantsmanship.

For tenure‐track appointments to Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, the candidate should have a DPT/MSPT/BSPT and an academic doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, EdD, or DSc) and must demonstrate the ability to establish and continue a line of scholarship with potential to secure external research funding. Rank will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials and experience in demonstrating a consistent and ongoing record of scholarship and experience with securing external research funding. ABDs nearing completion of the doctoral degree may be considered.

Non‐tenure track position appointments to Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be commensurate with the applicant’s credentials and experience in scholarship, teaching, and service.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include applicants with experience in teaching research‐related course content in a Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum in addition to possessing a history of published rehabilitation science‐related research in peer‐reviewed publications.

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY at USA, with a nearly 40‐year history, offers an accredited well‐established and highly respected entry‐level DPT program. The academic program is developed, managed, and implemented by the Department’s seven full‐time faculty members. The curriculum is delivered over eight continuous semesters using innovative teaching strategies such as patient simulation and team‐based learning that foster student engagement and clinical reasoning. Team teaching is utilized to promote delivery by faculty with content expertise. The Department is housed in the Health Sciences building and includes research labs with a Vicon motion analysis system, BTE Primus, and a Carefusion portable metabolic system. Innovative teaching methods are encouraged and supported through the University’s Human‐Patient Simulation Program, Innovation in Learning Center, TeamUSA Quality Enhancement Plan, and the Interprofessional Education & Collaborative Practice initiative.
