Aspire Program Plan Manager
With technology radically changing the nature of even traditional occupations, and other global issues creating a volatile labor market for today’s graduating students, it is more important than ever to ensure that students are well-prepared to navigate a complex career/life landscape after graduation. The Aspire Program Plan Manager will improve The Aspire Center’s ability to maximize career development resources, because the College will be able to blend big data knowledge with personal interactions to support students in ways that more precisely meet their individual needs and inform on-going systemic changes to ensure all students are prepared to transition into post-graduate roles that match their goals.
The Aspire Program is a newly developed, comprehensive 4-year career development program that integrates entrepreneurship, creativity, and leadership to prepare students for the careers of today and of the future. The Aspire Center is the hub of activity for The Aspire Program with a scope of work that extends well beyond the work of a traditional career center.
The center consists of a small and growing team doing work that will make a real impact in both on- and off-campus communities. In an average day, we're as likely to be strategizing about regional workforce development needs as planning a program with on-campus colleagues for first-year students to explore their values and goals. We're like a start-up housed in an established organization, and we are looking for people who are energized by the trials and triumphs of building a new program. The ideal candidate is someone who is flexible, creative, curious, and collaborative.
The Aspire Program, which fully launched in fall 2019, connects students with career advisors and mentors and is designed to provide all students access to meaningful experiential learning opportunities. Carthage's location in the Milwaukee to Chicago corridor provides students access to a wide range of experiential learning and post-graduate opportunities, and its unique J-term and off-campus study program provides global access to expand students' perspectives on the world. By creating a hybrid online/in-person career development experience for students, we will strengthen our ability to provide all students access to meaningful experiential learning, helpful mentors, and basic career development skills.
Through our continued work with the Higher Education Regional Alliance (HERA), we will be analyzing regional needs and are exploring badges or certifications that could validate students’ learning at Carthage and in the region to further strengthen the talent pipeline.

Goals and Key Activities for the Position:
- Design an online curriculum that aligns with The Aspire Program principles and philosophy to serve traditionally-aged and older students at Carthage.
- Improve Carthage College’s processes and procedures for capturing and analyzing data on students’ completion of key learning goals and program participation.
- Provide data to support HERA’s goal to strengthen the talent pipeline in the region.
The Aspire program manager will:
- Design individual and group online educational experiences and create a repository for students’ work to manage their progress through The Aspire Program. Collaborate with faculty and Aspire team members to create specialized experiences. Coordinate with area high schools and other key feeder schools to improve K-12 to college continuity.
- Utilize multiple technology systems to collect and analyze data, including tracking basic center usage data, like number of appointments, events/attendance, online resource usage, and number of unique users along with more complex data related to completion of learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with academic advisors (student success advisors, assigned faculty advisors, and pre-professional advisors) to design online information-sharing techniques and implement training to ensure information is shared in accordance with best practices in advising and meeting legal requirements/restrictions. Design operational procedures that will contribute to next phase of development in our holistic advising model.
- Develop reporting procedures to inform communication and program management to celebrate students’ successful progress, identify those that might need more help, and explore patterns that suggest possible systemic barriers for students in alignment with the 4-year plan. Design predictive analytics to inform the center’s practice and improve students’ completion of essential career development tasks.
- Develop bi-weekly reports for advisors, as well as annual and interim reports on overall student progress.
- Manage at-graduation/post-graduate survey data collection, analysis, and reports.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Expertise creating compelling, effective online learning and multimedia experiences
- Demonstrated understanding for universal design and/or related principles to maximize accessibility for all learners
- Experience with assessment/evaluation
- A love of organizing quantitative and qualitative data and communicating it with others to promote the program and inform decision-making
- Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse community of students/alumni, faculty, and staff along with external stakeholders from a variety of industries
- Ability to use technology relevant to the role. Common technology tools include: GSuite, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Smartsheet, Schoology (learning management system), customer relationship management system (CRM), social media, and website content management system
- Experience advising, coaching, and/or teaching college-aged students or other related experience is highly desirable
- Familiarity with principles for good web communication/online learning design and ability to write compelling and creative messages for print and online
- Effective written and verbal communication skills across mediums with attentiveness to detail, tone, audience, etc.
- Candidate must be able to work with some interruptions and be able to prioritize immediate and longer term work
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred.
- Must have experience with developing online learning and completing data collection, analysis, and assessment/evaluation.
