The Bernice M. Wright Child Development Laboratory School is looking for an Assistant Teacher to help supervise children and maintain staff to child ratios. The candidate will assist in caring for children 2-5 years old and enhance our accredited, child centered, and inclusive preschool and toddler programs using developmentally appropriate practices. The ideal candidate for this position has a passion for working with children and their families, understands how children learn, and is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for children and families. The ideal candidate also has experience working in an early childhood education center and holds a degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field.

Qualifications

• A minimum of an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, child development, or a related field; experience working in a child care setting.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Candidate must successfully meet NYS background and fingerprint screens and Staff Exclusion List clearance.

• Understanding and knowledge of the Office of Child and Family Services NYS Regulations helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assume the role of Head Teacher or Assistant Teacher in a classroom and in planning developmentally appropriate curriculum during the absence of the assigned teacher.

• Assist the Head Teachers in training, mentoring, and supervision of undergraduate student teachers and interns.

• Establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children aged 2-5 years old, including daily set up and clean up and activity preparation.

• Maintain active involvement in the daily activities with the children while establishing supportive relationships and implementing developmentally appropriate techniques of guidance and management.

• Attend and participate in ongoing professional development trainings, staff meetings, and meetings with inclusive education partners
