Basic Function

This individual serves as a medical resource, health educator and advocate for students, employees, and the University community as a whole.

Essential Functions

  1. Performs nursing assessments, identifying health and medical needs.
  2. Provides first aid, emergency care or crisis intervention to students, staff and faculty in accordance with the Maryland’s Nursing Practice Act, regulations and protocols.
  3. Performs Health Screenings.
  4. Provides health promotion and disease prevention information. Sponsors and /or conducts the offering of wellness seminars and other initiative throughout the year.
  5. Recommends appropriate care, referring to emergency services or an appropriate healthcare provider.
  6. Serves as a liaison, as applicable, with local and state health departments and healthcare organizations.
  7. Carries out duties and responsibilities with considerable independence within the framework of established policies, procedures and guidelines as outlined in the American College Health Association publication (May 2014), Scope of Practice of Registered Nurses in College Health.


Qualifications

Knowledge : A licensed registered nurse or CRNP in the State of Maryland. A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing is required; preference is given to candidates with a master’s degree in nursing or to CRNPs. CPR certification.

Experience: A minimum of three to five years of nursing experience in an ambulatory care setting, student health services, an emergency department(s) in acute care in an emergency department(s) or urgent care setting.

Skills/Aptitude : The ability to work autonomously, strong clinical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
