University Housing’s mission is to provide comfortable, affordable and secure on-campus housing options in residential communities where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported. University Housing operates as a self-supporting auxiliary unit within the Division of Student Affairs. More than 8,000 students live on campus, where University Housing manages more than 2.8 million square feet of space in 22 residence halls, 20 apartment buildings, four Greek Park houses and 18 buildings on UGA’s nearby Health Sciences Campus. The department employs more than 700 staff members to conduct the operations of a comprehensive and integrated student housing organization.

Position Summary

Reporting to the executive director of University Housing, this position serves as a leader of the Residential Programs and Services unit. An active and engaging member of the department’s management team. The position supervises two associate directors, an assistant director, a security coordinator and an administrative associate. The position provides leadership and vision to the Residential Programs and Services ( RPS ) unit within University Housing

Additional Requirements

• Have a master’s degree in higher education or a related field
• Completed a minimum of seven years full-time experience with demonstrated advancement in residence life/housing or related field
• Seven years of progressive experience with hiring, training, supervising and evaluating various levels of staff; including but not limited to students, graduate assistants, residence hall directors and administrative assistants.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

• Doctorate in higher education, student personnel or related field preferred
• 10+ years of progressive experience in campus housing, student affairs or a related field
• Two years experience overseeing a comprehensive residence life unit
• Two years experience building and/or enhancing academic programs in residence halls, including Living Learning programs, Faculty Fellows programs, a residential curriculum and/or other academic initiatives
• Two years experience working with budgets, facilities management, renovation projects and strategic planning

Duties/Responsibilities

Supervision (40)
• Provide leadership and vision to the Residential Programs and Services ( RPS ) unit within University Housing
• Directly supervise two associate directors, a security coordinator, an assistant director and an administrative associate. Indirectly supervise 5 assistant directors and senior coordinators, 16 hall directors, 17 graduate residents and doctoral interns, and seven administrative staff. The director also oversees a large student staff (400-600) including resident assistants, C.L.A.S.S advocates, desk workers and office assistants
• Establish and manage the staffing model for the unit; participate in recruitment, selection and training of professional, management and student staff within RPS

Percentage Of Time 40 Duties/Responsibilities

Student Safety, Crisis and Behavioral Management (20)
• Serve as a key manager and responder for student crisis and behavioral intervention in the residence halls. Will serve as a member UGAs Behavioral Assessment Response Committee ( BARC ), collaborating closely with offices who work with students in need (Dean of Students, Student Care and Outreach, Student Conduct, University Health Center, University Police)
• Provide direction for safety and security staffing functions within the residence halls, responding to emergencies involving students, staff and the facilities.
• Respond to concerns of students, parents and others regarding any and all aspects of the residence hall communities; develop and maintain mutually supportive relationships with other university staff and units

Residential Curriculum
• Lead a comprehensive academic initiatives program in the residence halls, collaborating with others on campus to support, promote and enhance academic partnerships (curricular learning model, Living Learning Programs, faculty involvement in the residence halls, etc.)

General Administration
• Serve as a member of the housing directors group, along with executive director, assistant to the executive director, director of housing facilities, and director of administrative services and communications. Also serves a member of housing management team, which includes the director and two associate directors from each unit
• Develop and manage budgets for the residence halls; contribute to the establishment and direction of the department budget
• Interpret and enforce university and department regulations, policies and procedures. Take the lead in development and implementation of policy pertaining to the operation and management of the residential life unit, conference services and security functions of the department
• Prepare periodic management reports and summaries, research operational data and apply measures of effectiveness including needs assessments and program evaluations
• Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of this position as assigned
