The Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner program provides leadership in regard to the development a new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a concentration in Family Nurse Practitioner which is scheduled to begin in August 2021. This is a twelve-month faculty position, with administrative responsibilities.  Travel between the University’s main campus in Charleston, WV, the Beckley, WV campus, throughout the state and the region is required. It is the responsibility of the Program Director to abide by the policies, guidelines, and accreditation standards set forth by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nursing, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the University of Charleston, the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences, and the Capito Department of Nursing.  The Program Director will report to the Director of the Capito Department of Nursing. The start date for the position is negotiable but should begin by January 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possess a graduate degree with a major in nursing (MSN)
  • Earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Meet all Registered Nurse licensure requirements as set forth by the West Virginia Board for Registered Professional nurses
  • Hold national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP); and have evidence of expertise in current clinical practice
  • Must have a current unencumbered license, or be eligible for licensure, in West Virginia as a registered professional nurse and must have current national certification as an FNP
  • The individual must have a minimum of five years professional nursing experience with at least two years of teaching in a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Must have experience in leadership; program organization and administration; curriculum development; budget administration; teambuilding; program assessment and evaluation; faculty evaluation; and accreditation
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills; have the ability to meet competing deadlines; be self-motivated; work collaboratively with other members of the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences; be open to change and respond quickly to internal and external demands
  • Incorporate innovation and interprofessional education throughout the nursing graduate nursing education and have the ability to work independently
