Job Description

The Human Neuroimaging Laboratory in the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC seeks a motivated individual with an electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or closely related engineering or physics background. This individual will be responsible for data acquisition from atomic magnetometry sensors used for brain imaging.

The successful candidate should have experience with bioinstrumentation and should be able to write and maintain software tools as well as design and build supporting circuitry. This person will perform regular testing and development on magnetometry sensors, recording hardware and software, and magnetic shielding. They will develop and maintain various utility scripts pertaining to experiment tasks and datasets. Additionally, they will develop protocols and unique solutions for human subjects brain recording experiments. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for systems and processes by developing innovative and creative solutions to complex challenges with the goal of advancing the field of neuroscience research. Additional experience in modern statistical inference approaches, inverse problems, electromagnetics, and/or neuroimaging would be beneficial.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in instrumentation hardware and software.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on multiple projects with competing deadlines.
• Strong testing focus and attention to details.
• Excellent documentation, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Master's degree in an engineering, physics, or equivalent education, training or experience, or bachelor's degree with equivalent training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing technical evaluations and analysis.
• Ability to identify highly complex problems, investigate them, address them, and learn from them.
