Position Summary:

This is a position for a cardiac anesthesiologist primarily to provide clinical anesthesia care with teaching opportunities to residents and medical students.

Principal Duties:

Duties for appointment to CHS track: Major teaching responsibilities for residents and medical students in the operating room, and didactic sessions. Primary emphasis of teaching will be in general and cardiacthoracic anesthesia procedures and techniques, or in area of subspecialty training. Provision of clinical anesthetic care to cardiothoracic surgical patients (i.e. working in the operating room, plus evening and weekend call) in an anesthesia team model or personally performed anesthesia. Opportunity for participation or to lead clinical research for interested and qualified candidates. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health.

Duties for appointment to the Clinician Teacher (CT) track: Provision of clinical anesthetic care to surgical patients (i.e. working in the operating room, plus evening and weekend call ) in an anesthesia team model. Provision of clinical anesthetic care will be primarily, but not exclusively, for cardiothoracic and generall surgical patients. Teaching of residents and medical students in the operating room, and occasional didactic sessions.

An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

MD or DO, Anesthesiology, cardiac anesthesiology

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Completion of anesthesiology residency program, and certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Completion of subspecialty fellowship training in cardiac anesthesia.

License or Certificate:

Wisconsin medical license, board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology

Additional Information:

This position will be a dual appointment with UW Madison and UW Medical Foundation.

Candidates for Associate Professor (CHS) or Professor (CHS) must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the CHS track.

Candidates for Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor must meet criteria for appointment at rank per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment to Clinician Teacher Track.
