In response to a changing business world, in 2015-2016, the Virginia Commonwealth
University School of Business launched a strategic plan to harness and build on strengths, ensure continued innovation and impact, and boldly ignite a collaborative energy among students, faculty, staff, alumni and the business community in Richmond and beyond.
The Undergraduate Studies Office in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions for Business Communications courses including Winning Presentations & Organizational Communication. As an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business, you will help support the new School of Business strategic plan that focuses oncreativity in the curriculum. Winning Presentations is a course focused on helping students build confidence. It uses pedagogical methods developed for the theater.

Should funding for such adjunct teaching positions become available, the Undergraduate Studies Office will contact persons in the pool whose credentials match our teaching needs. This pool will be accessed only when an opening arises. Your credentials will remain active for one year after the date you submit them. After one year, if you are still interested in adjunct teaching, you must reapply to this adjunct pool. Note that we are unable to hire applicants who are not already in the pool.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., MFA, or Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or related field

3 + years of experience and extensive training in theatre and communication are required for instructors of Winning Presentations.

3 + years of experience in Business for Instructors of Organizational Communications.

Strong communication skills, superior written and presentation skills, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, and a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Teaching experience.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU .

Candidates must be eligible for employment in the United States. We seek candidates who have strong communication skills, superior written, and presentation skills, a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, and a desire to work collaboratively with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D.. or Master’s degree in Business, Theatre Pedagogy, or Communication

5 + years experience and extensive training in theatre and communication.

2+ years of demonstrated excellence in teaching public speaking, business communications, or related courses at the college level.
