General Summary/Purpose

Theclinical socialworkerprovides services andcontinuityofcaretoclients/patients seen intheHowardCounty GeneralHospital Outpatient PsychiatryDepartment. Psychiatric evaluationanddiagnosis ofpsychiatricdisorders. Workswith multi-disciplinaryteam inthe PsychiatryDepartmenttoprovidequalitypsychiatric service. Isknowledgeable ofMentalHealth ResourcesinMaryland andproficient informulating andimplementingtreatment anddispositionplans.Documents allclinical activity in accordancewith JohnsHopkins, and State ofMaryland regulations.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Outpatient Practice:

· Performspsychiatric assessment,formulatesdiagnosis andinconsultationwith referringphysicianrecommendsandcompletesappropriatedisposition.

· Provide psychotherapy to outpatients with a variety of psychiatric conditions.

Generate bills for services provided in accordance with Johns Hopkins Clinical Practice Association Guidelines.

· Reviewschart,obtains all insuranceauthorizationsnecessarybeforeproviding servicetopatient.

Contactsnecessaryinsuranceproviders’andobtainsauthorizationsneededto

completedisposition anddocuments onchart.

· Interviewpatient andperformspsychosocial assessment, mentalstatus examination andpastpsychiatrichistory.

· Contactsfamilyor anycollateral informantsnecessarytoprovideinformationnecessarytocompletean assessment.

Formulatesanappropriatetreatment/dispositionplanforpatient.

· Developsknowledgebase ofMentalHealthService Systemnecessaryto makesthemost appropriateclinicaldisposition.

· Effectivelytroubleshoots all systemswhenproblems arise in effecting aclinicallynecessarydisposition.

· Assuresthat all appropriatedocumentation iscomplete accordingtostandardstocarry outtreatment/dispositionplan.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Emergency Department (Periodic Rotation to ED may be required)

  • Performspsychiatric assessment,formulatesdiagnosis andinconsultationwith referringphysicianrecommendsandcompletesappropriatedisposition.
  • Discussescasewith Attending Physiciantodetermine ifthepatienthasbeencleared medically andtodeterminewhy aconsult is requested.
  • Responds intimely mannerto requestfrom EmergencyDepartmentPhysicianforpsychiatric consultation.
  • Provides requestingphysicianwith resultsof assessment anddispositionplan.
  • Is aware oftimeconstraints ofpatientflow inthe emergencydepartment andpaceswork accordingly; and consistently evaluates allpatientsduring shift.
  • Providesappropriate sign out, eitherverbally or in writing,onclinical anddisposition status ofpatientstonext shiftstaff member.
  • Works as a Team Member with all members of the Evening/ Weekend Emergency
    consultation team.
  • Develops and maintainscollegialworking relationshipwith all ED Staff.

Documentation:

· Providesdocumentation of allclinicalandnonclinical activities.

· Maintainsclientfiles in appropriate mannerandcomplieswithJohnsHopkins accepted recordkeepingpractices.

· Charts areabove 85%completeatchartreviews.

· Knows andcan implement all State ofMaryland /Insurance/andFederal mandateddocumentation.

· Documentsclinical assessment of allclients evaluated onthe JHH StandardPES

· Evaluationform. Assessment informationonPEShas 95%completion rate.

· Documents all activities accordingtostandards

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master’sdegreefrom aprogram accreditedbytheCouncil on Social Work

Educationoran equivalent organization approvedbytheCouncilon Social Work Education.

Licensure:LCSW-C license in the State of Maryland required. Must maintain licensure throughout duration of employment.

Preferred qualifications:2 or more years experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Work requirestheknowledge oftheories,principles, andconceptstypically acquiredthroughcompletionof aMaster’sdegreeinSocial Work.

Work requiresthe analytical skillstoresolveproblemsthat requiretheuse ofbasic scientific, mathematical, or technicalprinciples.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
