Job Description:

MassBay Community College seeks qualified part time instructors for the current and future semesters. Our adjunct instructors have obtained appropriate certification and/or licensure where applicable and have earned appropriate education.

The Emergency Medical Services Clinical Preceptor supervises and instructs students in the clinical setting. The Clinical Preceptor serves as an advocate and resource for students as they learn to assess and manage acute patients. Paramedicine students are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours of instructed Emergency Department rotations under the direction of a Clinical Preceptor who instructs small clinical groups of 2-3 students. The Clinical Preceptor must be proficient in all areas of pre-hospital and hospital-based patient management and interventions, communicate effectively, assess students objectively and work as part of a team. The Clinical Preceptor evaluates student progress and submits evaluations and recommendations to the Clinical Coordinator in a timely manner.

The ideal candidate for Clinical Preceptor is employed as a Registered Nurse or Paramedic in a current MassBay Paramedicine clinical agency. Rotations are scheduled at mutually agreeable times based on agency, student, and preceptor availability. Clinical preceptors must not be scheduled as a hospital employee at the same time as the Clinical Preceptor shift.

The Emergency Medical Services Clinical Preceptor is responsible for supporting and/or developing educational and evaluation materials consistent with the philosophy and framework of the program, MassBay Community College, CoAEMSP (Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for Emergency Medical Services Professions) and MA OEMS (Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services). The faculty member is responsible for maintaining a current professional license and expertise in Emergency Medicine - out -of-hospital care sufficient to provide the clinical instruction needed for the course(s).

Times for Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021:

  • PM 210- Clinical I
    • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 8-hour clinicals daily (specific start and end time as determined by Department Chair)
    • July-August 2020; November 2 - December 23, 2020; March - May 2021


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide instruction and supervision for Paramedicine students in the clinical environment on various topics in advanced emergency care procedures and patient management;
  • Collaborate with Clinical Coordinator & Program Director concerning students' academic and clinical progress and needs;
  • Assess student learning of graduation and Paramedicine competencies;
  • Participate in assessment of course and program learning outcomes;
  • Recommend to the Department Chair suitable and comprehensive instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions and other learning resources;
  • Maintain a safe environment during clinical rotations;
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation required by the program and accreditation agencies;
  • Submit daily student evaluations to the Clinical Coordinator and/or Program Director via Fisdap or current online student clinical tracker tool;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence and expertise in the discipline of paramedicine and in classroom/clinical/simulation teaching;
  • Maintain credentials necessary to teach EMS course content;
  • Use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Attend at least one department or Advisory Committee meeting each semester;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.



Requirements:

  • Current MA Paramedic (MA and/or NREMT), Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or Physician (MD/DO)
  • Current AHA BLS and ACLS certification
  • Two (2) years of experience in providing patient care in emergency or critical care role


Preferred Requirements:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Current or past certification as a Paramedic or EMT
  • Five (5) years or more of experience in providing patient care in emergency or critical care role
  • Current AHA BLS and ACLS instructor credentials
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with under-served students

Education: Earned Associate Degree or higher

Salary Range: $45.34/hour
