The Office of Sponsored Research Administration at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is growing and adding a new Grant Administrator to the team. Reporting to the Associate Director of Grants, this position provides grant administration for groups of projects among internal and external team members including guidance on what issues may present a compliance liability to the university. Serves as an ongoing liaison between university administration, principal investigators, faculty, and staff. Responsible for providing guidance to principal investigators regarding federal and private grant administration, including but not limited to adherence to OMB and other government regulations including applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations of the university and sponsoring agency. Responsible for monitoring and reporting on budget management of grants awarded to the university. Responsible for recording and maintaining grant information in the university systems.

Responsibilities include the following:

Manage proposal submissions and awards for government and private research grants, including:
  • Provide guidance, support and assistance to principal investigators with proposal development and proposal write up, and coordinate submission. This can involve proofreading, editorial and writing assistance for all grant materials to ensure agency compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to identify and develop grant opportunities based on the University's research priorities.
  • Project budget creation and review. Develop and negotiate sub-awards.
  • Perform compliance review of all proposals for adherence to university, agency, and federal requirements.
  • Interpret agency regulations.
  • Serve as authorized organizational representative to submit proposals to funding agencies according to program guidelines.
  • Serve as liaison among Grants Administration, PI's, University departments, campuses and external funding organizations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies that affect research grant administration and compliance.
  • Assist with the content of seminars and discussions pertaining to grantsmanship.
  • Assist in the preparation of statistical reports on a periodic basis.
  • Maintain a positive research environment and infrastructure.

Maintain grant records:
  • Maintain complete and accurate files of grant award activity
  • Input complete and accurate electronic data into university system

Coordinate the acceptance of new awards:
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of awards
  • Review award instrument for university acceptance
  • Work directly with accounting to facilitate cost center set up

Coordinate other activities, special reports, projects and other related duties as assigned. Raise potential concerns involving grant budgets, administration, compliance issues and other key issues regarding grant administration and compliance

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in business or a related field is strongly preferred, however in lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years of experience in grants or contracts will suffice.
  • Prior experience working in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrated experience making independent decisions, researching, analyzing, and solving problems.
  • Experience working effectively under pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing and competing priorities.
  • Ability to develop new systems or procedure to resolve problems and facilitate workflow.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven experience working both independently and as an effective team member.
  • Experience in research administration and working knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies affecting research grant/contract acquisition and compliance.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and budget development.
  • Analytical skills with an in depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Microsoft Office products including advanced Excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • CRA Certification
  • Master's degree
